How much is to much?

For the three of us, for 9 days, I always try to stay below $5000 for the WDW resort and parks. Airline tickets are always Southwest and bought as soon as the trip is reserved. For the rental car I try to keep it less than $600. For food and other stuff we set aside $3000.

This year 9 days Wilderness lodge, 8 day park hoppers, vacation insurance, $4086.21. Southwest round trip with early bird check-in $1179.30. National car rental 9 days "any car in the club aisle" prepaid gas $178.75. Grand total $5444.26. Of course we have not eaten or gotten souvenirs yet.

When pricing out that trip to WDW, at what price do you start raising your eyebrow and readjust things? LOL

We used to go every year for 1500 for 7 days including airfare, but now it's getting impossible to find plane tickets for 125.00 like we used to.
This time it will be 360 for airfare for both, and 1550.00 for 7 days with QS dining. We have reached our limit, so I'm sure this will be the last trip. We plan on really enjoying this one.....

We need time for things to happen.
Ok we're not talking about after I win Lotto right?

Ok..my pre-lotto winning budget is as follows:

This is based on us going every year - my ceiling is about $5-6 grand with flights included.
8 days 7 nights with a rental car.

Out spending money is on TOP of all that and varies on what our financial situation is.
We brought as little as 500 dollars with us and as much as 2000.

But totally worth it to get outside your comfort zone and experience something new....something real.

And like I said before, for us a week in London is better than twice the time at WDW for the same cost.

I always go overboard on vacations. Like, WAY overboard. I'm like Clark Griswold. It does tend to stress me out at times, but my attitude for the most part is we don't have much debt. We make decent money. We work 49 week out of the year. We pay our bills on time. I put a decent amount into my retirement. I don't have a ton in my savings, but I have enough for "a rainy day". The 2 weeks I get with my wife and kids in the summer time is the most important of the year for me, and I only get so many of those. Screw it - I'm gonna enjoy it!

We splurged this time, and are staying at the POLY w/ free dining and it was close to $4,000.00! We saved though. I can't see spending more than $5,000.00 for a week at WDW. We drive. We usually go moderate, sometimes value, and low end deluxe. This is our 1st monorail resort!:)

Airfare has become the decision point with us as well. With 5 people flying it becomes expensive.

We are now going to start going every OTHEr year. We are DVC so, we just bank the points - it allows for a longer stay every other year

Park passes are cheaper - the cost to go from 5 to 10 days is a LOT less than to go from 0 to 5

We only have to fly every other year. With the total for airfare pushing $1,500 alone, it's a killer.

We tend to pay for everything up front months in advance. Plane tickets are bought when they are cheap(er) and park tickes are bought a few monthsin advance. The room is pre-paid as it is a DVC room. So when we go, all has been paid for, and then we just eat and shop with "normal" restraint and we are good to go.

Good for you. Just a bit of warning - Staying at a monorail resort is addictive! It's just so awesome. Not just the monorail, but having the ultimate Magic Kingdom convenience, the Electrical Water Pageant, the choice of great monorail restaurants. It's a whole other level of magic!!!

I have family in Ireland and go often, trust me... as expensive as EPCOT may be EUROPE is not an easy vacation to pull down.

NOWHERE Is cheap to fly to anymore. We thought we had found some awesome prices to France a while back, but then saw they were listed as one way

My wife and I just flew JFL to St. Lucia - It may be cheaper for me to by a boat and sail there.

if people haven't been to europe they just don't get it...

it's not like American, where we always have discounts and outlets and such. Everything there is top dollar, and with the relative power of the EURO, even with all of the market volatility in both markets, it's even harder for Americans.

Although, I finally scored good flight... I posted about it a while back in another thread but I got direct Logan to MCO for 189 bucks a person, RT with good flight times. Best price I have seen in ages.

Wow, I'm surprised by some of the deals people are here are getting. I like to price out different trips and I rarely get that low.

I'm with some others on here as far as my next trip (i meant splurging). We are doing 7 days at the Yacht Club with Park hoppers and Deluxe dining plan. Usually I'd just do Coronado Springs or Pop Century with the basic plan or no plan at all.

I USED to be able to get direct filghts on Continental from Newark to MCO for $180 +/- but I have not seen sub $200 fares in a long long time. Just picking at random, in the upcomming 30 days or so the cheapest direct round trip EWR-MCO is $439 on JetBlue (ugh). You can get a USAirways flight for $217 round trip if you want a total travel time of 4 hours and 45 minutes each way with a two hour layover in Charolette each way.

My ex-wife had (has?) family and friends in England, Ireland, and Scotland. (I am still friends with some of them). When they would visit, they would each bring an empty suitcase to go clothes shopping with. They didn't even look for big sales, just normal everyday percent off stuff. Two of them worked in construction. Over there 220 V is what you find in houses, but 120 V (same as us) is what they use on jobsites for safety. They would buy all sorts of tools over here, and then change out the plugs. Overe there they would pay more than twice as much for "contractor grade" tools.

When I was in London, the prices were insane. How people can afford to buy anything there is beyond me. It is a different lifestyle. Not so much of a disposable attitude.

For 7 days and 2 people, we try not to go over $2600 (including DDP, but not flights). Last year we got AKL for $2300 thanks to a great deal... this year we got POFQ for the same price while AKL was close to $3000. Ultimately it comes down to the discount we have which will determine our resort choice to keep us in budget.

I have never put a price on a Disney vacation. I'm there to have a good time and whatever that cost is what I'll spend. Next trip is either 14 or 16 day vaca in a 2 br villa. Taking my parents so it will cost a bit but idc its Disney. Every other vaca i put a price on just not Disney.

Must be nice to plan a vacation where money is no object.
