It's me and my husband, we're going for 6 days to the parks. We'll be staying on property, so we'll be eating in disney for all of our meals.

How much $ do you typically spend on food?

I'm trying to decide if the dining plan is the better deal, or if it's a better deal to go with my CM friends room discount and then pay for all of our meals separately.

Thanks for all of your help!

51 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My mom and I usually spend around $300 on food and we're there for 6 full days and 2 travel days. We tend to split lunches which greatly cuts down on the costs.
Here's an example of one of our days ($ is approximate).

Saturday - MK
Breakfast - Roaring Forks - $7.00 each
Lunch - Columbia Harbour House - Split combo and get second drink - $6.00 each
Snack - Ice Cream bar/Cookie - $3.00 each
Dinner - Liberty Tree Tavern - $30.00 each
Snack - Cookie - $3.00 each
Water - $5.00 each
Total - $54.00

I would figure on about $50 per person per day. (I am speaking of adults as I have not yet traveled to WDW with children). Some days it would be less and other days more. It all depended on what we did for breakfest. We always seem to eat dinner in the World Showcase at Epcot at a sit down restaurant and If we had a full sit down breakfest we would normally have just a snack for lunch, but if we had a quick breakfest, like a bagle, we would have a counter service lunch.

when my wife and I go, I allow 15.00 for breakfast, 20.00 lunch and 40.00 for supper, usually supper is the best meal of the day so we allow 40.00 because you may want a character meal or just eat somewhere a little more expensive.
On average we allow 75.00/day, but I have yet to spend all I allow for my vacation on food. 7days x 75.00 = 525.00, I always have atleast 50.00 left over.

We always budget $50 a day per person, but rarely reach that limit. This year we spent $50 on Disney's Dining Experience and saved a tonne of money! 20% off all food and drinks (even alcohol) at all sit-down restaurants.

One strategy that we do is to have a heathy breakfast, a big late lunch, then a smaller dinner later in the day or early evening. Just a salad or something. It works out well - you have the food energy when you most need it (during the day) and typically lunches are much less expensive than dinner.

That said, eating at WDW is one of my favourite things, so I never scrimp on it. If I want it - I eat it!

This is what I have found to be the average cost of each kind of meal including a drink after tax...

Counter Service: Kid's Meal $4.25. Adult Meal $8.30.
Table Service (including 20% tip): Kid's Meal $14. Adult Meal $32.
Snack: $2.50

With the dining plan you get 1 of each per day. So the value for an adult is around $43 (you pay about $37 with the dining plan after tax). The value for a child is around $21 (you pay around $10.65 with the dining plan after tax). So it is definitely a savings.

The two of us are big eaters and enjoy at least one sit down meal a day. We average between $50 to $70 a day apiece. We have a discount card for dining at a lot of places, and also AP discount that is good at some others. Generally we get 20% off, which comes back in the form of a tip for the wait person. We diet the rest of the year, but eat big at WDW because we more than walk off the calories, the food is great, and somebody else cooks and washes the dishes!!!:D

When we went in March, this is including my 7 year old niece, we mostly did counter service and those meals for the 3 of us cost around $20 for all 3 of us to eat. Me and my husband always split a drink. We only did a few table service meals on on those days it was about $50 or more for one meal for the 3 of us combined. It all depends on how you are planning on eating and what types of meals you get. We mostly bought burgers and fries because that is what we eat, nothing fancy. Now our next trip we won't have my niece so it will be cheaper. Like everyone else stated it just all depeneds on where and what you eat.

Being budget minded we generally figure $20.00 per day per person which covers 2 meals and a snack for everyone each day. And if we are planning a character meal we just add $20.00 per person for 1 day.

This is not nearly as much as most people spend but it works for us.

It looks like my friends and I are on the high end; we easily spend $50 to $75 per person per day. But we rarely do counter service. Plus we enjoy drinks at most meals (not breakfast!) including a bottle of wine here and there. That really puts us over the edge. With our budgets, that is.

Just to add on to whomever said something about the 1/2 lb burger from Peco's Bills.....at most counter service resturants you can order an extra roll (hamburger or hot dog if its sold there) for I think 80 cents more. Then you can take the double burger, split it....add the toppings and you have two meals for about a dollar more. The same goes for caseys corner....get the foot long, and an extra roll....and split it! Good stuff.

$100 per day is my budget. We have the DDE card, and there are two adults, on 7 YO and a 3 YO. Some days we'll go way over (Hoop night) and some days we'll stay way under (fix dinner in the room). I use an Excel spreadsheet also to keep up with the costs and ADR numbers.

2 Adults, we plan for $50/day/person. It is usually more than necessary, but at least at the end of the trip, we put the left over money into a special souvenier. I can't wait to see what we end up at the end of this trip. Maggie
