How Long

How long a vavation do you need to recover from your Disney vacation? My motto is why sleep at Disney because you can sleep at work when you get home! I have commandos on the move open to close the entire trip so by the time we get home I need at least 2 days to feel I can return to my life! Day one p/u dog, mani-pedi and grocreies and day 2 to rest! If I have the time I will rest on the 3rd day if work schedule allows.

I get very depressed when I get back from our vacations. I wouldn't want to go away, I'd compare it to WDW. I just get in my funk and try to get back in the groove. Since our trip this year will be over Thanksgiving then maybe it won't last as long since I'll have to jump right into Christmas planning/shopping.

I have a VERY bad habit of calling on the last day and ADDING AN EXTRA DAY. I always plan on coming home on a Saturday and returning to work on Monday.... BUT I it seems like I always add the extra day... Then when I do get home always glad to be back and the recovery depends on why I was there :) I am the director of a Cheerleading program of over 150 girls... when I get back from that trip it takes me about 2 weeks to recover :) But if we go down for fun the recovery is more about thinking about what I missed and how fast I can start planning the next one!!! :) Thanks figment423 great thread!!

I usually use all of my vacation time on the trip itself and I don't want to take any unpaid days off of work (we DID just spend a fortune on vacation after all, lol), so I go back to work my next regular working day. I'm off on Fridays and Sundays anyway, so if we would happen to get home on a Thursday or a Saturday, then I would have a day off in between. But that's not generally how it falls. On our last trip, we got home Monday afternoon/evening, and i was back at work Tuesday morning. This coming trip, we will get home Sunday evening and I will be back at work Monday.

This is a decision I have to make well in advance as our work vacay system can be like booking Disney dining. Seriously- our calendar works on 90 day windows and if you don't get in early and book your vacay as soon as you log in on day 90, you may sit on a waitlist. We also have some days that are lottery days...and you're only entitled to one lottery day (prime days around Christmas and New Year's). That being said, 1-2 days is my ideal.

We plan to come home on a Saturday, this way we have a day to start recovery before going to work on Monday morning. Once we started home on a Saturday but had to stop in Gainesville due to my wife getting a kidney stone, this delayed us to getting home till Sunday. Not that I would want anyone to get kidney stones, but was glad it happened on the trip home, not the trip down.

Personally, I need about 2 weeks or so before I settle back into reality...I'm not sure what it is, but as soon as we drive through those purple gates, everything from the real world just sort of dissolves. Then when it's all over, I'm in shock and depressed that everything's over, and I have to go back to boring normal life, and living inside a cubicle. There's the coping methods too, like spending entirely too much on parks merchandise afterwards online, but yeah, the only real cure is to go right back and do it all over again.

Oh the depression! Doesn't matter if I work or not I am just sad! Now I am 7 months off and just starting to comeout of hibernation and see the light:p Christmas is certainly a big help. My mom is coming with us this year for part of the stay and it will be her first time. Hopefully she likes it or I may have to call off sick for an extra week!!

We try to come home on a SAturday so that we have a day of "rest" before things go full-steam again on Monday. However, that usually doesn't work. Even with all of the naps and generally decent bedtimes, my family is so exhausted that if we had a choice, we'd need like 2-3 days to really feel back to normal. But, that's just physically. I think mentally it would be harder on us to not have anything to do for 2-3 days because we'd all be sitting there like "we could still be in Disney right now..." At least going to work/school on Monday makes us realize that we can't stay in Disney forever. It usually takes a week for me to quit saying to myself "Yesterday we were riding the teacups at this time." or "A week ago today we were eating at Cinderella's castle."

Actually, I sleep more restful when I'm at Disney! The day we get home, I pick up the dog and order OUT! I clean out fridges, put clean sheets on the beds, take out all garbage the day before we leave. When I get home that first day, other than picking up the pups, I do NOTHING LOL The next day, however, is grocery shopping, laundry and deciding on when to spring on DH that I am already planning our next Disney visit ;) There's a method to my madness!! That's my story and I'm sticking to it
