It really depends on the attendance at the attraction; the show could be canned in a few years but if attendance is high, they'll keep it around. And with the tv show's current ratings, they probably have at least another 2 seasons (depending on major changes to the cast or format).

However, if we base it on Who wants to be a millionnaire - Play it! that lasted 5 years, it certainly could follow the same patern: Unless you're a big fan of the attraction, most will lose interrest after a few visits and attendance will eventually dwindle with the show's ratings.

Another major factor is how Disney values the area as prime real estate. If plans for something better for the area come up, Idol is gone.

With all that said, it'll probably be around for a little while..

This!!!!!!!!^^^^^^. Exactly how I feel/think. I voted though at least 2 more years.

I said 5 to 10 years. They had a fair sized audience in January when we stopped in to see it.

I was forced persuaded into AI twice recently by a friend of mine who loves theme park shows (it was that or Playhouse Disney... sadly, I'm quite serious...). It played to reasonably full audiences both times I saw it, and the singers they found were surprisingly talented, especially for very off-season days in early December and January. I was even  enjoying myself. I wouldn't be surprised if the show has some legs.

I'm surprised American Idol Experience even opened to begin with. The show has been in decline for years...and without Simon "Meanie" Cowell and Paula "Tipsy" Abdul, there is no reason to really watch it anymore.

EDIT -- I'd really love to see them close it down and bring back Superstar Television, with current television shows.
Perhaps even Big Bang Theory. After all, Disney has already made deals with CBS for one license.....

I voted for what it should have done <1 year. WDC needs to completely rethink the real estate and how it is used at DHS. There is too much space with nothing in it, there are a lot of attractions that use too much space, and there is too much that is needed to make DHS great. American Midol needs to go.

You know what would really make the theme park version of the show popular? If they hired a judge that was a Manaj analogue and created an effect where she spontaneously combusted once or twice a day.

They invested a fortune in creating this...it's not going anywhere for a long long time...long after the TV series is gone, it will still be there. And while Idols ratings might drop, they are still stellar for Fox...

While I was initially thinking that the attraction wouldn't shut down until the show gets canceled and loses all social relevance...there is one possibility-

The judge drama is really the only thing keeping this show alive. While the current judges aren't quite the tabloid fodder as someone say a Lindsay Lohan or a Kim Kardashian...but it's getting close. So, at some point judges with poor reputations and trashy conduct will define the show. i.e. how trashy do the AI judges have to get before Disney decides the DHS attraction represents their endoresment of tabloid junk and seriously tarnishes their image?

It's not a bad concept, just was built about 5 years too late. It's gonna take the Sounds Dangerous route though I think.

To be fair at least AIE has some actual thought and effort put in it. Sounds Dangerous was a complete and utter abortion from concept to reality, and made me realize how much I missed Monster Sound.

(Drew Carey put the camera in his MOUTH. It's funny...'cause he's FAT!)

A variation of Monster Sound could easily make a comeback, given how popular those stupid Paranormal Activity movies are. *door creaks*

I said less than 36 months as I hear little to nothing in terms of buzz anymore about American Idol. We did it for the first time last October and I can say that I do not have to do it again. It was well done and presented very well but I just honestly could care less. Production values were high but unless it was raining or sweltering and we needed to sit down in the AC I do not think we would do it again...of course I have been saying that about UoE for the past ten years and it is still around in its' current iteration :( .

The building where Idol is housed could be so much better used for a Star Wars or Pixar or Marvel attraction when taking into account the space from Sounds Dangerous as well.
