How long to get through airport?

For our next trip in July we are scheduled to arrive at MCO at 14.55 on a Virgin flight from London. We have to pick up a Dollar hire car and then drive to POFQ. What arrival time should we plan on at POFQ? I was thinking 1 hour to get through the airport, 1 hour to collect hire car and 30 minutes to drive to POFQ - making eta POFQ about 17:30. Does that sound about right???

In my experience it just depends on how long the lines are to get through US Immigration. On my last trip it was really quiet and took about 5 minutes, equally it has taken nearly an hour before.

Then to get over to baggage claim B and collect your luggage another 30-40 minutes or so. As you actually have to collect your luggage twice it takes a little time.

I've always over estimated time to give myself enough play room in case of problems. But I've never done the overseas route and can't tell you what will happen there. But it sounds like you have planned enough time to me.

We've rented from Dollar our last three trips. There were never more than two people in front of us in line and we averaged about 10 minutes for the whole process including the walk to retrieve the car. It actually took longer to collect our luggage from the carousel. Have a great trip!

Generally, your time estimates are reasonable. But... Immigration is the wild card. Some days it goes smooth as silk and others it's a nightmare ordeal that no human being should be subjected to.

I would recommend against booking anything specific that evening and just go with the flow...

The rental portion is easy.. as the cars are right across the street from the terminal.

It usually takes about 30+ minutes to get through the rest of the airport and get luggage if things are going smoothly.. but you have immigration to go through as well.. which as other said.. is a wild card.

My guesstimate would be 30+20+15 = 65min.. plus 30mins to drive to the Resort.

When you get to the final luggage claim bit we always split up - hubby went over for rental car and I stayed with the kids to get the luggage then met him over there - that way you are in the front of the queue for the rental car and not making a mad scramble so that may help as well.

Heading for the great escape.
Last summer was a nightmare, it took nearly 2 hours to get out of the airport. Too many planes arriving in the same arrival hall, Qs at immigration, at customs, at the 2nd check at the hub, then ages to get the luggage.

Part of yhe problem was the Virgin early Gatwick flight, (the one we were on) had a problem and arrived just after the later flight, and at the samed time as a third 747 from ???

Getting the car isnt too bad especially if one of your party gets the car whiled others get the bags.

Have to say that I was in a bad mood buy the time we got to the HRH. A mood which blackened further as there was no room ready at the hotel. No park action that night:fork:
