How long does it take to see it all?

We are considering to do a combined Disney-USA-coast-to-coast trip with both WDW AND DL and as we are totally new to DL would like to know how much days do you need to do all attractions in both parks, especially now after the opening of Cars Land?
Perhaps we will purchase Premier Passports so the lenght of the stay at DL can definitely be longer than the maximum of a 5 day ticket.

Sounds like a very cool trip! Considering everything new that's popped up, I'd say you need at least four days to see EVERYTHING. It doesn't hurt to tack on more days. The Premier Passport sounds like a good idea.

I was there in march/april and had a 6 day park hopper, really spent about 5 1/2 days in the park and we were not able to do every attraction. However we did do a couple attractions twice.

If you really want to do "everything", you'll need at least four days. Maybe five.

There are a lot more rides in both Disneyland and California Adventure than you'd find in the WDW parks. Combined, the two Disneyland Resort theme parks have almost as many "rides" and attractions as the four WDW combined.

If you are a real Disney theme park fan, and visiting Disneyland for the first time, you may also want to try the excellent Walk In Walt's Footsteps guided tour for one of the afternoon's of your visit. I would suggest taking the tour on the third or fourth day, after you've had a couple of days to get acquainted with Disneyland. Disneyland is the only theme park Walt ever worked on personally, walked in regularly, and lived in occasionally, and the Walk In Walt's Footsteps tour is an absolute must for anyone who admires what Walt created with Disneyland. http://disneyland.disney.go.com/tours/

You'll want four days for everything in the off-season, including a Friday or Saturday night so you can catch Fantasmic!. Or perhaps five days in a busy season like Christmas or Easter Vacation to accomodate the larger crowds. That's my suggestion.

Thank you all for your advice, as the lenght of our stay is only defined by the cost for the hotel and the hotels near DL are a LOT cheaper than the Disney hotels as we found out, we decided to stay a week if we really do the trip. If we do we have to change our reservations, because at the moment we still have a room reserved from September 19th till September 29th at the Art of Animation. :)

How much is this tour and do you get a reduction as an AP holder?

We spent four days there and it seemed just about right. Enough to do just about everything once and things we really liked 2 or 3 times. This was before Carsland, so given that it may be a 5 day thing now.

I'm doing 3 days combined the first week of September, is that sufficient? First day at Disneyland, second day at Cali and the 3rd day at Disneyland again. A three day hopper pass just in case we want to hop. I don't really have the time to do more since we want to do one day at Universal also. That's 4 days of theme parks on a 9 day trip. But I figure 3 days would at least let me see all the attractions, or the ones I want. (we'll skip a couple things like Mad Tea Party since it is a carbon copy and nothing new).

3 days will let you do all the main things you want.. but you won't get to everything. When you throw in WoC now, and the expanded DCA offerings.. you need more than 1 day for DCA. In the past, people would spend half a day in DCA, and the rest in DL.. making a 3 day trip, more like 2.5 days in DL. But now DCA will demand a full day or more from people.

That'll be enough time for that time of year. But I think you'll find that you'll hop back and forth a bit, especially on the second or third day.

It's an easy process to move between the two parks at the Disneyland Resort; you just put one foot in front of the other and a few minutes later you are in a different park! :D

Yes, so it seems. But personally I want a full day at DCA so I know I won't hop back to Disneyland because I'd like to see World of Color as well. Two full days at Disneyland seems to be enough to do what you want as well as set aside some time to appreciate the beauty of it. You know, maybe we don't ride Space Mountain the second day and Indy will be closed the second time around. So really, you are talking about what would be two main attractions that could be filled in with ones I missed the first day
