How long do the mobs last when new lands open?

I think its design error. The walkway's are to narrow and in the case of Pandora it dead ends toward the store and that's the exit from the ride so you have a traffic jam.

We were there in December and Pandora was still really packed. Huge lines to get in right after rope drop. We were able to get and use FPs without much problem though. I'm actually terrified of SW:GE. That's going to be absolute chaos for a long time.

One thing I heard is that they don't want the attraction lines detracting from the immersive feel of GE. How to address that? That's Disney's problem to solve. Good for WDW peeps is that WDW will watch DL to see how they handle things there. I think there will be a lot more for guests to do in GE than just the rides. Pandora is visually stunning, but there's not much back and forth between the land and the guests.

I agree, I'm not sure how they're going to deal with that. It seems like their solution in Pandora was to just create a massive line that snaked all the way back to the Safari. There's not a lot of open real estate for them to try that at DHS. Should be interesting to see how DL works it out.

To me, the answer is a virtual queue. You tap your magic band, then 1, 2, 3 hours later you can get back 'into line'. There will be a lot of capacity in the show buildings, but I doubt it will be enough for the full standby line.

I'm surprised they haven't gone with this yet. Maybe Universal owns the patent for a while or something.

That'd be easy enough to look up. The drawback of a virtual queue is lines occupy people. How many people are in line when the MK is at a 10/10 day? Maybe 5-10 thousand more than on a 'normal' day. Have all those people descend on shops & quick service and imagine the pandemonium. SWGE crowd management will be different than usual Disney lands where it's just, extend the line.

I don't think there is a Disney comparison for the mania/fanaticism that will surround SW:GE for literally years . . . More like Universal 's HP lands, but by an exponent of 3-5.

The fact it's opening in California will relax it a bit, and the fact Star Wars has existed in the parks well before that. However, it'll still be crazy, but I doubt Hogsmeade level crazy (but close enough). I still think the first day or three you'll still be backing up along the path to Boardwalk resort just to get into DHS.

Everyone still makes a mad dash to Seven Dwarf Mine Train if that gives you any idea.
They’re not lining up hours early the way they did for Pandora for what seemed like months. Even frozen ever after was easy to rope drop a few months after it opened. DL’s crowds will be a decent indicator for wdw, especially once you get to the last 2 weeks of the year when kids are out of school.

I just meant even though it's a few years old now, *most* everyone still heads there first. (And it was so hot early in the morning too!) We were there just a little over 2 weeks ago. At AK everyone made the dash for Flight of Passage. We had fast passes for it so we didn't. Instead we rode the boat ride and we were on and off it within minutes, then we walked right onto the Safari bus and had the best safari ride ever. We saw so many animals out. It was great! I think Star Wars will be the "worst" (as far as crowds and wait times) of all the new things.

I'm amazed that Toy Story Land's lines haven't been too bad after the first day. I saw a lot of 60-80 minutes for Slinky Dog Dash today. That seems fine to me, and it will likely go down as we go along. On the other hand, I expect Galaxy's Edge to be insane. It will be easier at Disney World due to the size of DHS, but Disneyland is going to be insane due to all the locals.

I think that says something about the ride. Flight of Passage is the best ride in Orlando. People will wait for that. Slinky dog will soon be the 7th most popular coaster at WDW. If There were no FoP ride, and all we had was Navi river journey, does Pandora attract the same crowds?

Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Star Wars galaxy’s edge are different. My younger daughter has enjoyed 3 full days at WWoHP and her ride total is once in flight of the hippogriff. That land is enjoyable even for those who do not go on the rides - younger kids, people who don’t do well with motion, grandparents, great grandparents. The rides at galaxy’s edge will be awesome. If you build it WDW, they will come. The test for SWGE is how enjoyable is it minus the rides? I enjoy Pandora, but I’m not going to wait to get into the land if I’m not going to ride FoP. From some of the tech rumors and my fascination with Westworld, I have high hopes for the non-ride aspects of GE.

I like what you are saying in your post, but in reality we really don't know if the rides in Galaxy Edge will be awesome or not. We wont know the true quality or experience until they are built. I hope they are, I have a feeling at least one will be great.

My money is on FoP-esque attractions. I have more confidence in the falcon ride.

Pandora got flamed by many people who thought it would be junk. I would say Pandora will be going strong for years .

Really I been there and it is junk.
The scenery, plastic alien flowers and fiberglass mountains who's support structure is not hidden at all.
The whole TWO !!! attractions, river ride is extremely boring and short.
The simulator is just plain dumb wave your arms like idiots so you can be calibrated, then it lasts for like a minute tops after a two hour plus wait.

Good points. I like Navi River Journey more than most, but it's not an E-ticket to draw crowds. It's a pretty, relaxing complementary attraction. I do like hanging out in Pandora, especially at night, but I also was there when it wasn't crazy packed. Toy Story Land appears to have fun rides, but it's not a place I expect that I will want to just chill at for a while. It reminds me a little more of a much better-themed version of what's in my local Six Flags. Lots of concrete and not much shade.

Personally I think WDW essentially bit off more than it can handle with SWL. While they *expect* rather insane crowd levels. I don't think they really grasp the reality of hundreds of thousands of guests swarming the property all essentially trying to get on two rides. And a glimpse of the land.

A single ride opening, or pandora or toy story land. Just not the same fan fare that Star Wars will bring. All I can imagine is disney execs thinking more guests, omg, chaaa ching. The reality of it is it will be pure insanity level crowds, nothing that they have experienced in a very very long time.

Can they handle it properly? Part of me doubts it. I'm guessing it will be almost months before the go crazy crowd level subside. Maybe three or four. Maybe even six. Then it will drop a hair to you can tolerate squeezing through..

Look at Pandora. The banshee ride is still nearly impossible to get on, or get a fast pass for. And its Pandora. What kid really remembers Avatar, and truely, how many adults are dying to go. Yet the ride is packed. Years after.

I'm guessing the two rides, coupled with the medicore sized land, quantified by hotel capacity... We are looking at years before it even starts to have occasionally slow times in the area.

OOOOOOHHHHHH I forgot. Stack this into the 2021 50th anniversary a year and a half after SWL opens. I guess, we'll see how fast Tron and the Guardians get done. Those two will for sure help alleviate the crowd issues at SWL.

Also, again, I forgot. Toy Story Land .. will be packed, essentially overflow for SWL. Rather the guests are there to see it or not, they will :)

Avatar is an example of what happens when you build a really well themed land with a great attraction. Its an easy winning forumula Disney used to know very well.
