How is the Polynesian now?

I had someone in the hood just get back from there and said it was fine…but overall the poly was “light” and the parks were “very light”…I trust that opinion like 75%

Someone who was there in April when things were more busy said that it was completely overrun and honeslty not worth the hassle”. Trust that opinion like 95%

I'll report back at the end of august. The same time we go every year.

Poly has 818 parking spaces, which is less than the 848 rooms it has. Industry standard seems to be at least 1:1, or in some cases up to 1:1.24 rooms to parking spots. Poly also has some of the most popular restaurants on site - O’hana and Kona Cafe. I can’t find details but I can’t believe the new Island Tower has sufficient parking for the 246 new rooms there.
I have seen the 1:1.24 as an industry standard as well. But that doesn't mean that the Poly itself, as it functions as opposed to general hotels, does not have enough parking spots to meet its actual needs. Given numbers of people who visit WDW properties and don't utilize cars, it would not surprise me at all that the number of cars vs guest rooms are not at at 1:1 ratio. That's why I asked where is the evidence/facts that Poly doesn't have enough parking to meet its own needs, vs just being below the normal ratio for the industry.

I was in Orlando by myself last month for a business trip, so I took my day off to 'audit' the MK resorts. The Poly was certainly busier than when I have stayed there in the past, but not enough to deter me. In fact, it got me planning my next trip with a probable stay there. I had breakfast reservations at Kona for Tonga and had lunch at Capt. Cooks and neither seemed unreasonable at the time. I admit that this thread gives me cause for concern, as I wasn't there in the evening. I would agree that it has gone downhill since the days of the lobby water feature, but I still find it quite charming.

I just spent the last 10 days at the Polynesian.

The crowds in the parks were lower than I've seen them, this time of year, going back to the 90's.
The crowds in the Polynesian were higher than ever.

30-40 people in line at the Pineapple Lanai every evening instead of under 10.
Every table at Captain Cooks was occupied surrounding mealtimes. We had never had an issue with tables before.
The lava pool was packed, resulting in the Oasis pool having more people in it than I have seen before. Roughly 4-5x normal.
The Lobby was always full of people.

I understand why now that I have visited the new tower. Wailulu is not a quick service. It's expensive and I can see the food not having a broad interest. Personally, nothing on the menu looked interesting and my wife and kids had no interest either.
The tower lobby is sterile and completely uninviting. There's nothing warm or interesting about it.
The cove pool could have been great if they built what was shown in the renderings, but it's pretty lackluster.
We never attempted to go to trader sams. There was a constant filled hall of people around it while it was open.

We like to stay in Moorea. It's nice and close to the TTC. We don't care about the walk to the monorail, Captain Cooks or the bus stop. But I heard an awful lot of complaining while waiting at the bus stop and monorail about the distance from the tower.
"They'd better add another monorail stop."
"If the bus stop is this far away, I don't want to go anywhere that we need to get on a bus."
"Did we miss the bus stop at the tower? This is too far away."

To me, the biggest glaring issue with the tower is the lack of a quick service restaurant and some place that serves Dole Whip.

We had our first Island Tower stay 4th of July week and really enjoyed our stay. Parks were pretty thin but the resort was pretty slammed as a whole. The Tower was great as it allowed us to mainly stay away from the hustle & bustle of the rest of the resort and it really didn't seem too inconvenient to walk to the GCH or the TTC even. We even walked back from MK one night.

I personally think Wailulu is outstanding and I love that you can mobile order from there. I can see where the food choices may be an acquired taste for some. The gym at the Tower was also quite nice; definitely prefer it over Grand Floridian's gym.

I will say that the hotel staff as a whole didn't seem overly friendly, especially on the bell services side. Not rude or anything, just not the usual friendliness I've experienced at many other resorts on property. There were fewer smiles on cast members' faces is probably the best way I could describe it.
