How is Kona compared to Ohana

I made ADRs way back 180 days out and now after reading these threads I notice that Ohana sounds better than Kona-where I have reservations. After trying numerous times to make new reservations for Ohana I am not successful at all. Question is "how is Kona?" is the atmosphere nice? good food? thanks

We love both, and have ressies at both places in October. We've done both breakfast and dinner at Kona and Ohana, Kona, in our opinion has, the better breakfast, hands down. Ohana for dinner is outstanding, Kona is wonderful. Either place, you can't lose! :sohappy:

We did Kona for lunch about a month and a half ago instead of going to Ohana for dinner this time and we weren't impressed at all. We love Ohana (even though we were disappointed with the food there once) and go there every trip so we were sure we would love Kona after all the good reviews but we left Kona feeling we had wasted our time. The service at Kona was slow, our server blamed it on being busy but there weren't many people in the restaurant or in her section. The food was a little underseasoned and the kilauea torte at the end of the meal was lackluster, I assume it was supposed to be served warm but the center was kind of cold. We will definately go back to Ohana and skip Kona.

Love both.

Kona is the better breakfast place, hands down.

At dinner, I prefer 'Ohana, though the teriyaki steak at Kona is fantastic.

You really can't go wrong with either place. Typically when I can't get in to 'Ohana for dinner (it's apparently the toughest ADR on property now), I book Kona (which is very easy to get into, even last minute).

We have always made ADR for Ohana, but for breakfast and lunch at Kona have just walked up and been seated after a short while. Both are good.

We always have liked Kona. Food has always been good and the atmosphere is that of a good sit down restaurant. The Kilauea tort is a great dessert.

O'hana is a family style restaurant with activities for kids. It's a lot about taste in restaurants. Now without kids with us, O'hana doesn't quite work for us but others will love it.

Both are good choices.

We have done both and Kona is way better for dinner. In fact, we always eat there twice every trip. Love it oh so much! Let me know if you want to know our favorite dishes.

I feel your pain! I have been trying for months to get into Ohana for my September trip

People have had some positive remarks on the boards about Kona so I made a reservation there.

I've been to both and liked both, but I think which is better comes down to style of meal you're looking for. 'Ohana is much more high energy and is always a lot more busy than Kona Cafe. If you're looking for fun and upbeat it's pretty good. Kona is definitely a lot more leisurely and calm, and has more food options if you are looking for something other than a piece of meat carved off of a skewer.

Personally, I think Kona's decor and setting is more attractive, and the food seems less mass-produced.

I am mostly seeing that Kona is better for breakfast and Ohana for dinner. This is outstanding since we have ADR's set up this way. Can't wait to try both. The Tonga Toast has been calling me.

O'Hana is one of my top restaurant picks. I adore the shrimp. However, I was really happy with my Kona dinner on my last trip. I had done lunch at Kona before and it was just OK. However, dinner was fantastic. The bread is delicious and I had the wonderful teriyaki steak. (I don't really like red meat but I will ALWAYS have this dish at Kona.) That said....don't be bummed if you can't get O'Hana for dinner because I think that Kona is a really close substitute.

At first, we used Kona as a "filler" table service meal...when we couldn't get any other choices using the dining plan. Yes, Ohana is awesome, but we grew to love Kona. The service is a little slow, always, but the food is really great. I love the coconut chicken served with the most delicious salad of spring greens, strawberry, pineapple, almonds and honey lime dressing. What started out as a filler is now a destination. It is a great opportunity to sit in a little more subdued setting but also allowing the kids to ride the monorail to and from Magic Kingdom and sometimes we'll go and hang out by the pool/beach and watch Wishes from there after our meal. Then we have a choice of taking the monorail back to the bus stop missing some heavy traffic or hailing a cab to get back to our resort. :)

If I could only eat one table service meal on my trip it would be dinner at Kona. We eat there every trip and have never had a bad meal and the service is always perfect. We usually have a pretty big group with kids and they all love it.
