How far out do you book your flight?

My mother and I are leaving on Nov 9th and I checked flights and they are up from 380 to 550 since the last time I checked!! Do flights ever come back down after the summer or am I just hoping? Should I book now or hold out for a better price:shrug:

Wow that's high! Where are you flying out from? I'm going in September and I like to have my flights booked ASAP because they usually just go up even higher from there on out. Sometimes they'll go down very close to the travel dates but I don't ever trust it. I'm flying out of Atlantic City and found airfare for $225 Non-stop, round trip with taxes and fees so I jumped on that and booked. Good luck!

We are flying out of Bangor Maine or Portland Maine. Bangor is 1 1/2 hours from home and Portland is 4 hours away but I might drive to Portland for a slightly cheaper flight

I've noticed that South West has their best prices if you book a flight on a Tuesday. Maybe it's their slow day but the flights are cheaper if you book on Tuesday.

We usually try to book our flights as soon as they become available, I've noticed the prices fluctuate during the week and typically a little lower during tuesdays to Thursday's.

From California, I find the best prices 9 to 8 weeks out on a Tuesday, for departures (both directions) on a Tuesday. Wednesday or Saturday. I've booked many flights this way.

The price of gas going so high the airfares follow suite. The closer it gets the price's rise. I would book Jetblue or Southwest and if the prices go lower you can get a voucher good for a year for the difference. Good Luck!

As soon as you see a good price, grab it. I'm looking for a flight down on Aug 1st with SW. I already purchased coming home. Price's are being stubborn and not moving. We usually sweat the airfare. The latest I've grabbed it is 3 weeks prior to our departure.

Air fares

Our next trip is Dec 3-8. I like Airtran best (we fly out of Pittsburgh) because they offer direct flights but they are only booking through Nov 2 now. I had to go with Delta this trip. When I first started to plan in early March, Delta was $400 for 2 round trip one stop tickets. By the time I bought the trip, Delta went up to $550 for the same flights. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday fares were the same but Sunday, Thursday and Friday flights would have added another $100-$175 to our trip. Since I live in the Youngstown Ohio area, I also checked out Akron/Canton and Cleveland airports. For similar flight times on the same days, Akron ran about $75 more and Cleveland was $150-$175 more than Pitts. You have to do your homework, but prices are going up the longer you wait.:brick:

We normally do the same thing, but this year, decided to wait to see if Spirit adds an afternoon flight for our return trip in late October. (and prices keep going upwards) Right now, the only day flight is a little after 9AM on our departure date, and I try to squeeze as much Disney time in, as I can :) We are 6 miles from ACY and my husband works there, so, maybe I just should just convince him to take an additional day off :sohappy:

I'm kicking myself for not booking August/September flights back in Feb. Then they were $130 each way from Boston. Now the same exact flights are over $200. I'm just waiting while we decide if traveling to another airport is worth the $ we could save

An additional day won't hurt right??!!! lol

I usually go for 6 nights, 7 days and get a 6 day hopper because we used to fly home early.. this trip is 5 nights, 6 days and I wanted to get as much time in the parks as possible to I booked the latest flight home and got 6 day hoppers. I think it was a good idea!

Do you have a preferred airline? You may want to call them and ask what their policy on fares is. (For example, we always fly JetBlue, which has a policy of starting with the lowest fares, and then increasing them as the seats sell, so if you don't book as soon as new flights are released, you know the price isn't going to get any cheaper).

If worse comes to worst, you can always try for a last-minute deal on Priceline or something similar, but you may have to fly at an undesirable time of day.

We book our flights as soon as we book disney (better rate earlier on). Usually jet blue. You should definitely check with the airline policy on changing reservations if prices change. Jet Blue gives you 1 year travel credit. This time around I downloaded an app for my Iphone (it's also available online) called Yapta and it keeps track of the fares. You put your flight information and it gives you a daily update of fare changes compared to what you paid. When the difference changes significantly (you set what is significant) it will email you and tell you to call the airline and request credit or rebook flight for better rate. Since I booked 1 month ago, for December, I have received $20 credit. It's great if the airline offers a sale/deal, you can jump on the offer immediately. Again, it all depends on the airline policy.

A small tip if you aren't going till late in the fall sign up for the southwest chase card for there 50000 points card for 69 dollars and fly for free takes roughly 2 months when all is said and done. Go to slickdeals.net and search southwest we are all flying for 100 dollars more or less cause that was the card sign up fee when we joined. 3 of us from buffalo to orlando

My experience is that the fares go up and down. Three months out usually works for us. Watch for sales and check alternate airports too! Tuesdays and Thursdays are the cheapest. If you see a fare you can live with, jump on it, it might be gone tomorrow.
