How easy to book non-home resort?

I booked my vacation for next month at our home resort for the duration we wanted and then at 7 months went on a waitlist for two other resorts for a few days of the trip. They became available within a couple of weeks and we had a choice. I let the kiddies decide. So we have a split stay for next month.

Hey everyone -

I'd be interested in hearing some stories from people (both good and bad) trying to book at the shorter non-home resort window (7 months, right?). Is it impossible? Only impossible for high season? Easier for certain types of rooms?

I hear stories of people having a few points left over so they book a weekend getaway last-minute... so it can't be that impossible... right?

Thanks!
Very tough
I have 340 pts at bay lake. If iBook blt at 11 month
No issue. After that it is difficult to get any weekend. At 7 months for other resorts it almost
Impossible. You can get Saratoga or old key west
But nothing on the boardwalk.

Having said that I love BLT! I just have to be
On top of dates.

Anytime within first two weeks in December (for 6 nights), one bedroom. Epcot resorts, any view.

Well, that explains it. That is one of the most popular times for DVC trips (for those who don't know - low crowd levels at the parks, and low point costs for DVC members), and of course, BWV and BCV are popular any time of the year. I highly doubt you would EVER get those at 7 months during that time.

But I did get it twice!! So there is hope - although very slight.

We stayed in a Grand Villa at Saratoga 2 weeks ago, and we only booked it at the end of April. So, if you book right at the start of the window, I don't think you should have an issue.

We have been members for 10yrs going all times of the year and we have not had a problem getting what we want at the 7 month window...with the exception of Food & Wine @ BC & BW. I was even able to get two 1 bedrooms at AKKV for a Thanksgiving Trip 2 yrs ago.

Between calling at exactly 9:00 eastern time at the 7 month window AND waitlisting AND booking at your home resort as a fallback AND being willing to move mid-stay, you should be able to get in.

We haven't talked about moving mid-stay, which can be a small pain, but it's almost like taking two vacations. Last year we did 4 days at Baylake Tower and then 4 days at Boardwalk (preferred view) and the change was actually quite fun. We've also stayed 2 separate times for one night at Animal Kingdom (once at Kidani and once at Jambo) before cruises. It's really fun to switch around and see the different resort. Of course moving more than once during a trip would probably be too much of an interruption.

I guess I've gone slower seasons? We own at AKV. My last trip was Boardwalk this past february booked at about 5 months. We have Beach Club in September booked at 6 months and BLT in January booked this week. Full week stay at all 3.

I own at BWV and have successfully booked at BLT back in September 2009 and at GCV in September 2012. I guess it is easy in the "offseason".
