How early do you start planning/booking?

Okay, so you wanna go on a trip to disney world (as we all do!) how long is it before you leave that you start planning and booking things? A few months? A year? A few weeks? I don't mean a last minute trip either I mean a proper trip which has been planned out etc.

I'm asking because I'm going on a trip next year (solo as i'll be 18) so I was wondering when I should start planning things. I know I can't book yet as prices haven't been released etc.:sohappy:

Planning never ends

I'll normally aim to book about 11 months before a trip but start (seriously) planning a little before.

By "seriously", I mean I start working out a budget, the best time to go within a given period etc. I am, like most people here, ALWAYS kind of planning the next visit, even if it might not be for a couple of years.

Ditto with your info. We do the same but once did a very short notice trip, for us (4 weeks ahead)-November and had a great times.:ROFLOL:

I should note that very lengthy planning CAN be hazardous to your health. I periodically have nightmares about wasting time in the parks or even forgetting to go to them, or missing the plane. Getting hopelessly sidetracked from Space Mountain at rope drop is a major recurring theme.

When that happens I have to take a break for a while, and limit my daily WDW to current news and pretty pictures...

Our planning typically begins at least a year in advance... either just before or during our current trip. Then as soon as we return home, we finalize our date preferences. Since we're DVC members, we book at our first window eleven months out at our home resort- SSR. Then at seven months out, we make any changes in locations or dates... usually splitting our stay between two or more resorts. We've already reserved OKW for the first part of our stay this fall, and will know tomorrow if we can get into BLT for the second part.

Planning and anticipation is exciting and fun, and I think about it everyday until our vacation begins. In another month, more fun is in store as we make our dining plans.
