How does online check in affect the day of your arrival

Have never done online check in and i'm all in favor of avoiding lines but what is the benefit to doing online check in? We'd still have to let them know we had arrived and get a room key from someone.

I did online checkin on 9/9 at ASM, and waited over 45 minutes. They completely ignored my requests for close proximity rooms (2 different buldings) and didn't even put us in the premium buildings we had paid for. Ended up mediocrely acommodated @ best, but was tired of waiting.

I even called 10 and 5 days out to confirm my requests.

I noticed that there was at least 5 different families all arguing the same thing while I was waiting in line. It was if All Star Music truly didn't care about your requests what so ever.
