How does online check in affect the day of your arrival

Have never done online check in and i'm all in favor of avoiding lines but what is the benefit to doing online check in? We'd still have to let them know we had arrived and get a room key from someone.

3 days!!!:sohappy:

Check-in i sin the same place. In general, the online line should be faster. It is possible that it is not. Basically, the online check-in line should just check ID, verify CC on file, and hand you a package. The regular line is to get details of the resort, request a different room location, fix something that is messed up on the reservation.

If there are no issues, then online check-in should go faster.

With regular checkin they:

- verify your ID and find your reservation in the computer
- make your key to the world cards with park admission on them if needed (this can take time!)
- assign charge privileges to each key - this involves showing them a credit card and signing a form
- give you a parking permit for your car if you need one
- explain the dining plan if you need explanation
- show you a map of the resort and where your room is and tell you how to get there

With online check in they:

- verify your ID
- hand you a packet with all of the above already done
- if you don't have any questions or need to make any adjustments, you are done.

I recommend that first-timers go thru the first process and veteran guests use the online check in.

We are staying at Coronado Springs and want a room in either the Cabana's or the Casita's. What are the chances of getting what we want using online check-in? and if we don't, can we still request a different room? also, if you use online check-in is their no need to still call and request a certain area or building?

Requests should still be called in and put on your reservation ahead of time, this allows the room assigner to attempt to meet your requests. You can't make special requests using online check in.

If you get your packet and the room isn't where you want, you can always ask the CM to check and see if there is a chance that they can move you.

I checked in on-line for CSR a few weeks ago. Requested a first floor room. When we went to check in, the online line was longer than the others! We had 2 rather large parties ahead of us who seemed to have a million questions. I was tempted to wait in a shorter 'regular' check in line, but stuck it out. We did NOT get a ground floor room. Not a fan of on-line check in. Perhaps it was just bad timing. I'm a serious planner, and figured I would have saved myself a lot of time, but in my case, I did not. Just wondering why they ask you for any special requests if they don't grant them. When I asked the cast member, he said they had no ground floor rooms available for a few days, but I could 'check back' in a few days to see if any were available. By that time, we were settled in and didn't want to move.

I just did online check in and it did have a text box that specifically said it was for room requests. I did not look too close to it because I was not expecting to be writing a review of the process. However I definitely remember stopping filling out the form and asking my wife if she had any specific requests for the room.... she did not so I skipped it.

Heading for the great escape.
The online check-in line is much shorter (and faster) since your packet is already done and waiting for you.

Unless your checking into SSR, where yes it is shorter but its relative, or in cases where the CM is totally useless and would rather spend time moaning than checking you in, so beware CMs with a Union flag on their badges.

Did the online check in, got to the resort on Thursday, stood in the "On Line Check In" line which was not staffed and was feeding into the regular check in line. Lucky us, we got a cast member in training, our package had not been put together yet and our special request for a King bed (for our anniversary trip) could not be accommodated, but we were "more than welcome to check back on Friday to see if our room could be moved".

Not seeing a big plus in the on line check in.

Other than that we had a GREAT weekend!

There are very few king bed rooms, and many of them are handicapped accessible.

At the moderate resorts, you can pay specifically to have a king bed room type; all other resorts are a request.

As previous posters have noted, it speeds up the check in process. Your welcome packet is waiting for you upon arrive. All you need to do is present photo idea to recieve it. If you rooms are not ready when you check in, they will also confirm what phone # you want a text or phone call sent to to notify you that your room is ready.

Keep in mind if you do the on line check in that the card you used when you booked it, will be automatically charge. I didn't realize that and wanted to use another card when we got there, which it was my fault for not knowing that, but we ended up having an older person wait on us, who wasn't very quick, but another staff member stepped up and helped us out. I will do the regular check in from now on.

We're nearing our time to use the online check in - I am not seeing anywhere that it allows me to pre-purchase our park tickets for the week? Is that still something we will need to do after arrival at the hotel? It has been a while since we were at Disney but I am recalling that the tickets were purchased AFTER we "checked in" at a separate kiosk area.

Am I correct or is there away to get the park tickets in advance and waiting for me as well?

I am reading this and hoping that the on line check in will have the kinks worked out more by the time we go in 10/12 for our Anniversary! Hopefully we will be able to see enough changes that check in will be a simple glance of photo id and hand me my packet and click a button...!!!

The best thing you can do to make sure your packet is ready is list your arrival time about 2 hours early. This is sort of like when you order a birthday cake. If you tell them you need it at 4 and you must have it at 4 they are usually finishing it up at 4 or a little after making you late and not so happy. If you tell them you need it at 2 you can actually show up at 4 and have it be done.

The only other factor, guests in front of you, is really out of anyone's control.

Exactly. Online check-in is hit or miss for me. It is supposed to be for people who know the process/resort and do not need hand holding at check in. However many people on-line check in and when they get their packet ask a dozen questions, holding up the line (very often there is just one CM working the online check in line). It would be nice (for me) if the CM would tell them "if you have questions, go wait in the regular line" but of course that is not going to happen.

Sometimes you zip through. Other times you wait behind people with loads of questions. Once I got in the online line, waited while the regular lines serviced 4 people and was then empty. I moved to the regular line, told them I had a packet over in the online checking area, got my packet, and was on my way while the original person was still flapping gums in the online line.
