How do you slow down your WDW visit?

We just went in Sept/Oct and had a blast, but I too was thinking of a way to slow my vacation down and soak it all in. One night my wife and daughter were very tired and went to bed quite early. It was then I decided to explore the world a bit on my own, and take some time for just Dad. I hopped a bus from ASMU for Downtown Disney ( I also happen to enjoy a fine cigar once in a while) So i arrived Downtown and leisurely strolled around and finally arrive at Fuego (cigar/bar located Downtown) Well i bought a fine cigar, a few Corona's, had my own table, and i just sat back and did some people watching. It gave me a chance to relax, reflect on my trip so far, and anticipate the rest of my trip to come! To end the night I got a beverage "to go" and walked from where i was, to the Marketplace and down to the West End where i caught my bus back home, it was about 1 am by this point!

Good for you, that really sounds awesome.

And great question from the OP, I wish I had the answer myself!

We are DVC members and go to DW at least 3 to 4 times a year. So what we like to do is build in resort only time, depending on how many days were there. Our next trip starts soon and we are not going to any parks on the first day we are there Friday and on Monday. So two whole days of sitting around the pool, reading books, spending family time together and just relaxing.

I don't know if I slow down but I do take the time to enjoy everything. If you have a watch, keep it in the room. We are never in a rush when we're there. Coming from NY, where it's always rush rush, it's nice to just stop and not worry about small things like having to wait for a bus or wait on a slow line. You kind of have to will yourself to chill.

Like me, it sounds like you've been enough times to know what you want to do and see while you are there. I find comfort in that and know which attractions Im going to hit in each park and where Im going to eat. I try not to rush from line to line and even ride several laps on the monorail - getting off at different resorts and just walking around and seeing whats changed.

The max Ive stayed is a week, but I think 10 days would be ideal, just to have a day or two to look around Orlando and cool the heels.

I was just there in December and im already wanting to go back, just not when its 100 degrees outside.

Where is Fuego (cigar/bar located Downtown)? I know of the cigar shop near the house of blues by quest...starts with an "S" - can't remember the name – Soba?

I always pack my travel humidor for the WDW trip. Nothing like sitting out in the designated areas on property and enjoying a nice smooth cigar with an adult beverage. Never in the parks...but at the resorts of course. ;)

Just wondering where this place is in DTD. I must have missed it less it's new.

Usually we fly to the world. BUT last trip we drove. And actually the drive we took helped us de-compress a bit. Wife and I can remember when we flew it usually took us 2 days of our vacation to slow down our roll and enjoy it. Last May we drove seeing as the airlines have gotten way too greedy with pricing. For our stay we'd spend way more on just the luggage we take. So the drive was a good savings. And since we rent a car while in FLA...the rental we did in PA for the trip was fine. After the drive we felt relaxed believe it or not when we arrived on property. We enjoyed the trip much more being relaxed. Again we felt de-compressed from the windshield time we put in getting there vs. the flying we did on past trips. The vacation went very well and we had a nice pace, enjoyable! This year we are doing the same - driving back in May10' to the world.

Thanks!

I had a nice one from there in December, http://www.sosacigars.com/ - just took a martini or two to get rid of the taste LOL. When in Rome..

Like the others have said, take days off in between several days at the parks - and when in the parks don't over plan.

Some areas within WDW that help me slow down: the whole The Boardwalk, Beach Club, Swan, Dolphin, right on over to Fantasia mini golf area. That whole area I find feels more laid back than anywhere else in WDW. It's great for exploring, walking, taking a boat ride with lots to see along the way. The other one, is Poly... plan a dinner there, then head for the beach for a walk and catch the Electrical Water Pageant and/or a distant different view of the fireworks.

DofD,

You are right. We did 1 week stays for our WDW vaca all the time. Then on our 10th anniversary my wife and I decided to do "10 Days for 10 Years" as our own celebration. After that we've never looked back. 10 days is ideal in our opinions. You can slow your roll for sure. See what you like and experience NEW stuff too. We always like to try something new each year we visit WDW along with our FAVORITE re-peater stuff too. We don't spend 100% of the time in the parks as well. We do travel around Orlando just to take a break from the WDW grind that can occur. Funny how even at the happiest place on earth you find folks who can grind on you... ;)

And as someone else said don’t schedule too many dining things. Makes you rush around to get things done since you have a dinner scheduled. We try to keep that to a minimum. And never wear a watch and leave your cell in the hotel. Kills me how many folks and kids are texting or talking when in the parks. Just enjoy the magic! It wouldn’t bother me at all if Disney jammed all tower signals. Folks are rude enough less a cell in their ear as they outline all they have done to whoever is on the other end of the call.

And the Cigars are just the icing on the cake! Sosa, THAT'S IT!

Thanks.
