Having recently stumbled upon the multiple pronunciations of this letter, that fall within the english language... I'm curious how you pronounce it...

perhaps the classic american "Zee" or maybe the more distinguished, old world "Zed"

or maybe something else... so how do YOU say it..

In the computer graphics community.."zed" is more commonly used than "zee"...partially due to the fact that most of the software companies are based out of canada (and all their video tutorials and such are done with thick canadian/french accents)..but also because there is no mistaking the sound of "zed" when it comes to explaining hot key values to other artists.

I have adopted it in certain situations, but i still do use "Zee" most frequently.

If I understand your question correctly, when I need to tell my dispatchers at work i'm using the letter Z, I always say Zebra.

Yeah... when I spell my last name on the phone or whatever for people... I say "Zee, as in Zebra...."

Day to day conversation that's not work involved, I use "Zee."

Where I worked in California, we used "plain name" alphabet, Adam, Boy, Charles, David, Edward, etc. So back then I used Zebra.

Where I work now, we use the military alphabet, so it's Zulu.

Of course, it never hurts to be creative...sometimes I'll say "D, as in delicatessen," just to see if the person is paying attention.

I've never heard of the "Zed" pronunciation. Makes me wonder what other variations of letter pronunciations there are in our varied and complex language.

all i was saying was that that particular curse word you used (no, not 'colonial') can be quite offensive to some people. now, i don't mention the use of bad language to people most of the time, and in fact i use bad language myself. except that particular word. i find it to be highly offensive. you obviously don't. that's fine. we'll agree to disagree. but, personally, i don't think it's a word that should be found on a family site, even if it was posted in chit chat.

and being in my late teens, i suppose the rolling eyes smiley would be considered popular among my age group...but then again, you must already know that since you used one.
