how do you REALLY have to dress at a signature?

I don't think it's about the actual type of clothing, but rather not being "dumpy" looking. Like if you're gonna be casual, wear new, clean flip-flops and unwrinkled shorts. Nothing you wouldn't wear to like an Outback Steakhouse or the equivalent. Of course, you can also dress up quite a bit if you would like. I've seldom felt overdressed. In my experience, you can divide how people are dressed into thirds: Resort dressy, clean casual and park sweaty.

The interpretation of "dressed up" is different for everybody. Although Disney does describe the expectations clearly, I imagine not everyone takes the time to read them. We are lucky that we visit once a year so we don't feel we have to go crazy in the parks and we have a lot more time to relax. So we always make time to clean up and dress appropriately for dinner. Not everyone has that luxury.

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
You can look like crap as long as you have money (or you have prepaid with the dining plan). Whether you want to dress like that is another story, but you can. Victoria and Albert's is pretty much the only place where they will actually turn you away if you are dressed inappropriately.

Yep V & A's is the only one I have ever heard of turning anyone away for improper dress. ;)

We enjoyed showering off the sweat and sunscreen before our first Cali Grill dinner last summer. Of course, after dinner we went back to our room at BLT and put on the next day's park clothes to go back to the MK and play some more!

We often go when it's not hot and sweaty season. Lol So coming straight from a park we usually don't need much of a refresh but I usually freshen up a bit if I have time by changing my top and shoes maybe etc. :)

You're lucky! I teach so we have to go during summer (aka hot and sweaty) season.
My kids have picked out houses to buy nearby so we can move closer and go all year round.

I have no idea why they have a dress code since it doesn't matter what you wear.
They state a dress code because they hope people will take the hint and clean up a bit, and the majority do.

I'd certainly prefer it if everybody would follow the suggestions and look nice, but I'm very aware of where I'm vacationing.........so the slobs don't bother me.

Because Disney isn't going to turn away business or lose money over cargo shorts versus slacks. I guess what I'm more confused by is why list a dress code in the first place when you're not going to enforce it.
In addition to this, has anyone seen short shorts at signature resturants? I see them all over California and for anyone who is anaware of what they are, they are basically shorts so short that if you cut off half an inch you'd see someone's butt cheek, and sometimes you can see that anyway when they sit.

Hockey89 likes an argument. Doesn't have to be a good argument, just an argument.
Don't gang up on people, guys...
Yes I have heard they have those if needed but women if dressed inappropriately they can't just give a jacket and tie to. Haha. :hilarious:
They could have a full suit with jacket and pants which is pretty unisex, although what about a rentable dress or skirt or something? That's head to feet and could be useful for a wide variety of situations. I guess that might be weird with a shirt but the person can go to the bathroom to change into it or something

And from what I've seen, they don't actually turn you away - they give you a jacket and tie. (I guess they'd turn you away if you had shorts and flip-flops.)
Don't need a tie.... Jacket is a must and shorts WILL get you sent home.... It's is heaven for me at Disney.. No kids...Best food on property by a mile...

check the 10 day forecast when its time. Not uncommon to have low to mid 80's that time of year, water is chilly for me, but I am a Florida kid. When we do get cold fronts they sweep down and usually stall right about the Tampa Orlando line that time of year and it could be 50's overnight.
