How do you pay for things in Nassau?

Credit card, pre-paid credit card, US cash, Bahamian cash? Even though we've been to Nassau a couple of times I've never paid for anything other than an excursion and that was through Disney so I have no experience. We're thinking about going to the rum distillery and probably buying some bottles so I'd like to know how I can pay for the stuff. Does the Dream have a currency exchange on board at guest relations and if so will they convert the money back to US dollars for the cash not used? Sorry for the newbie questions but I appreciate any help!

Mostly everywhere down there does take US currency, however, you will find places that only accept credit/debit cards, no cash! (I'm looking at you Atlantis!)

We only bought a few small things from a vendor by Fort Fincastle, and in the shops at the cruise terminal but they all took US dollars.

Guest Services has a currency exchange. I don't recall getting change back in Bahamian money but my last trip I didn't spend anywhere but Atlantis. My girlfriend has made multiple trips there and her experience was that they will tend to want to give change back in Bahamian, but you can request American dollars. If you get stuck with Bahamian currency I would say just exchange it at Guest Services.

The two times I've been to Atlantis, I've usedd American dollars. I prefer cash personally. Expect ridiculous prices.

Due to Nassau's extremely high crime rate, I usually carry a little cash and one debit card (usually my secondary checking) in-case I need more cash. If your CC is taken that is a much bigger hastle than a debit card with a few hundred on it. Don't forget, Disney has had passenger advisories for here. It's not that Nassau is such a bad place, it's actually quite beautiful, but there is a high amount of 'violet crimes' aka muggings usually at gunpoint.
