I'm a Type A planner for sure. I have it booked before 6 months, and definitely mull over ADR's for a while. We go once a year or once every year and a half, generally at the same time. So it's easy for me to plan in advance. I wouldn't be opposed to throwing a quick trip together though, still would have a great time.

Like you, OP, I did both. I had long-planned trips and "Let's just go!" trips. Both were fun.

The less planning, the better, IMO. All that planning leads to more stress for everyone. But I did both!

We know it will be either January or February for our trips, alternating each year to make good use of our APs. Book the room and the rest just falls into place. I am not a overplanner as it takes the fun out of it.
