I have to say I almost blame it all on marketing and the guy who decides what the trailers are going to be. Honestly, we loved the movie as a family. I also liked Hidalgo, Raising Helen and the Alamo. I have to say from the trailers for all of these movies I wasn't interested but I went to see them. I really liked Hidalgo, the others were cute but not fabulous and I loved 80 Days, but if I wasn't a huge Disney freak, after seeing the trailers for all of those movies, I probably wouldn't have gone to see any of them except 80 Days because I like Jackie Chan.

I think marketing is a major problem right now with Disney movies. None of the films that have come out in the last few years (except maybe PotC) have had really catchy trailers. With the Animated films, HotR had one of the worst trailers I have seen. I don't think Disney knows HOW to market these films, or WHO to market them to. I like the movie "The Emperor's New Groove" but I only saw it because someone else rented it....by what I had seen in the trailer for this movie, I thought it looked very dumb.

$6.8 million for the weekend. Ouch!

What's wrong with people and movies these days....Around the World in 80 Days was a great movie, and The Terminal, which was excellent, only managed to make $18 million.....yet Dodgeball, a movie people thought was going to be a huge bomb, comes out to make $30 million.....:(

The interesting note on this weekend is that Dodgeball, with its $50 million total budget ($20 million to make, $30 million to market) has already recouped over half of its cost. Around the World....cost $110 million to make, and $30 million to market.....and has not even made back 10% of costs.

The good news, if there is any, is that Around the World should do well internationally....so all hope is not lost...yet.

I certainly hope word of mouth will spread for 80 Days as it was such a good movie. Dodgeball has absolutely no appeal for me. Then again I don't like alot of those movies that are made for pure dumb comedy. I don't know what to call them.

Well according to boxofficemojo.com, it cost Disney $110 million to make the film and another $30 million to promote it. And the film has only raked in $9,619,000 since its opening on Wed. Even more shocking is the fact that since its opening, it has never made more than "The Day After Tommorrow." A film that has been out since May 28th.

further proof that Disney needs a shake-up in marketing. Even if the films were good, the trailers are very bad. I think PotC had the only good trailer of any film they have made in the last 5 years.

Actually, I do like the trailer for "The Incredibles." Unless you just meant the live action films, in which case, you're probably right. Otherwise, nothing beats "Honey, where's my supersuit?" and "Woman, will you tell me where my supersuit is?!" Frozone just cracks me up.
