How do you deal with FOMO?

I will go “high”…the good/bad news here is that there’s a good chance you’ll miss nothing because of the plan to not update/replace things very often.

You may not be planning to comeback next year…or two:..or three…or five…but the stuff there now isn’t going Anywhere anytime soon.
I'd slightly say the opposite actually.

One way to enjoy short trips is to prioritize some of the things that are only at WDW for a short time. Like if I was going during the Flower Festival, I'd prioritize seeing a few of the highlights of the Flower Festival. I'd maybe budget some funds to buy one of the special 50th Anniversary items - at least if I happened to see something that appealed to me.

OP mentions his daughter is in the college program, so in OP's case, I'd probably prioritize that in some way, like maybe seeing where she lives/works, or eating a food she advises or something like that. Something that would be unique to this time will help make the trip special.

That’s more cost prohibitive. If you don’t live in BVL

It's not so much FOMO as it is POBICREIWTAPSHTP. (P'd off because I can't ride everything I wanted to after paying super high ticket prices)

That is standard operating procedure now…we just don’t want to admit it.

My rather elderly MIL and friend are in Epcot today…you know - the park you can get? - and they left repulsed after a couple of hours.

And they enter no lines…ever. Just want to peruse the F&G and sit and people watch.

Never heard feedback like this and I was in Epcot on 12/31/99. Sounds like that was a picnic in comparison.

More recently 12/31/2018 and it wasn’t that bad.

At least Disney’s stock is tanking…Bob will lower the crowds hell or high water…

We are definitely making plans to see her. She'll meet us before and after her work shifts, and on her days off, if she has any while we're there. I definitely want to watch her launch boats at her attraction. I think that would be the most unique things I could imagine.

You just have to prioritize and enjoy/appreciate your time there! Table service meals will def eat chunks of time and it depends if you want to re-ride certain rides vs. trying to ride everything at least once. Rope drop/early morning entrance (if staying on property) for sure and stay until close. When you get home, just plan another trip (if you can)!

Actually, table service restaurants are some of our favorite things to experience there, due to the wonderful theming of the restaurants, as well as the need to really force us to sit and recharge for a while. We have made all of our dining reservations for mid afternoon, so as to avoid meal rush and save a little time. For our Animal Kingdom day we only have a table service reservation for a late dinner after the park has closed, since there's not really any restaurant there that excites us.
Definitely plan to be there for rope drop every day, and stay until we a re escorted out of the park by cast members trying to lock up. ;)
The next trip I have "planned" will be my retirement trip in 7.33 years (but who's counting?) Perhaps we can fit in one more trip in the meantime?

Am I alone in this? I have a trip to WDW coming up in a little over a month, and I'm extremely excited about it. However, due to a combination of time available and money available, we are limited to only 5 full days in the parks. I know, many people travel for much shorter lengths of time, so maybe they can help me with this. My issue is I'm already feeling like I'll be so rushed to see as much as I'm interested in. I know it's impossible to see everything, but I always leave feeling like I haven't seen enough - and that's with trips that typically give me a full 7 to 9 days in the parks, as well as more time to explore the resorts.

So, I'm asking what you do to avoid feeling like you didn't see and do everything that you wanted to? It all interests me, so I'm having a hard time narrowing down my expectations for this trip. I don't want a fear of missing out to cast a dark shadow on what can still be an amazing trip.
Disney World has become like a cruise…you can’t do everything in one visit. Plan for what’s most important to you and your family. Relax and have a great trip. When you return home you plan for your next trip, however long away that may be.

I totally agree!! I love sitting down in the AC 1-2x a day in the middle of a busy park day! It's so nice to chill, be served, enjoy atmosphere, and have (mostly) actually good food. I was just saying that they usually eat up a lot of time, especially if you like to take your time and enjoy your meals. For instance, I was recently at MK and had breakfast at Cinderella's Royal Table and dinner at BOG. Between the two meals, it probably took 3-4 hours out of our park day vs. 60-90 min if we had eaten at QS places. So if time is of the essence, you'll be taking away from ride/show time. Just depends on priority!

This is what I would do if I were you - consider it - it may cost a little extra upfront - but well worth it. Pick one of your first 2 days and do the VIP tour - you get 7 hours of a VIP Tour guide to take you anywhere by car to any attraction. List the attractions that you want to see (for sure) - you get on right away - get them all out of your system then. You can do all 4 parks on all the rides you want within the 7 hours. They take you behind the scenes to the front of the line. This way - you can have the remaining 4 days to go at a slow pace and do the things not worrying about FOMO.

Another way to look at OP's query is just to enjoy the idea of being in the middle of a place that has so much happening at once.

Something I've always enjoyed about WDW, is just a feeling of being in the middle of so much collective energy. I'm not quite sure how to say, but I don't have to be doing everything to feel that I'm somehow connected to all that is happening. I don't think about what I could be missing, but rather focus on how everyone at WDW shares that energy.
