How do you calculate how many points you need?

Hello all- I am looking to rent directly from a DVC member. We just had an unfortunate situtation with a broker and a daughter who has chronic health issues. We had to cancel our FIRST trip to disney and aren't getting any of the money back AND could not reschedule dates:( How am I able to calculate how many points I need to buy? I know the dates, room type, and resort that we want to reschedule our trip for, but can't find a point calculator. Also, any tutorials on how to navigate the Mouseowners.com website?? The layout is a bit confusing to me.

Thank you! Do you usually rent points through someone?
My mother has had DVC since the ‘90s, so we usually “borrow” points from her. If I was going to rent points I would probably go through a company, but I know you’ve had problems with that.
Do keep in mind that the points vary year to year, so if you’re planning a couple years out you should know it shifts. Where/when are you hoping to go?

Hoping to go to bay lake tower in November of 2020 for four nights. Looks like we’ll need to purchase about 220 points

November is in the middle of peak time for DVC, so you’re well behind in booking for this year.

What size room were you wanting, and what dates. Looking at the 2-bedroom villas (going by the number of points you said), there is some availability from the 8th to the 21st. Otherwise you won’t get 4 consecutive nights.

Keep in mind that renting from an owner direct will most likely have the same stipulations RE a refund. DVC owners have a date after which they can't do anything really with their points, so if you cancel they would be stuck with a booking they can't use. If you are set on DVC rental then you would want to make sure you find travel insurance that covers point rentals and pays you back if you need to cancel for health related reasons again. Good luck
