How can you ride the monorail for free?

Free? Bwhahaha! Monetizing the monorail! This is "nickel and dime you to death" Disney after all. It could help pay for new cabins and continued maintenance in the long term. How would they charge? Who would they charge? What would they charge? In this day and age do we really think riding the monorail will remain free*? And what of the gondolas? Surely that will be an upcharge experience!
Pay per ride Monorail or Gondola Passes for the World!
Having now been discussed publicly on a highly-visited WDW forum, Disney can not directly copy or put into service this idea
without acknowledgement and compensation. This is a smallish effort to make sure monetizing transportation doesn't happened. Suck it Mouse! With love, Magicart87

Yes you pay to park but if you are staying at the resort and have a car you are paying to park whether you drive to the MK parking lot or not. You are paying a daily parking fee each night of your reservation.... so I really don't see that as any additional cost. I also stated if you were staying at a Disney resort. If you are staying off-site then yes you would be paying to park.

Other than trying to park at one of the resorts, I think parking at Disney Springs and taking a bus to one of the monorail resorts would probably be the best option. Then if you wanted to ride the long monorail ride to Epcot you could just transfer at the tranprtation and ticket center.

The Germans have figured that one out. When they do ticket checks, two checkers get on each car and sweep all the cars simultaneously.

I tried to park at the Polynesian in Dec 2017 because I was going to rent one of the bayliner boats and ride around in 7 seas lagoon. The guard told me that the parking was for hotel guests only, and said I had to park in the MK lot and take the monorail to POLY.

You could fly into MCO for a monorail ride. :p Not like Disneyland, you need a ticket. The only two stops are the Disneyland Hotel/Downtown Disney stop and Tomorrowland.:bookworm:

Yeah, but does Disney have any way to implement that fee for people who are just driving in to eat? If I go to the Contemporary and say I have a reservation at the California Grill, the guard can then look for my name on a list. But if I say I'm just meeting some friends for drinks at the CG, then my name is not on a list. And I don't think the guard is set up to charge $20 for me to park there. This charge is part of my hotel bill, not a meter set up at every parking spot.

Right. They are going to let you in for sure with a reservation. They can turn you away for other reasons.

As most have stated, if it's not super busy, they'll probably let you in. I've faced more scrutiny lately, especially when attempting to go to the Contemporary. Not much I care for as far as lunch goes there. But I do buy some of the exclusive records to resell in my record store, and with my AP discount, they're a good deal. There's a store at the Contemporary that is well stocked.

Once, we were turned away. We told the guard we were just going shopping, knew what we wanted, and would be spending at least $300. No dice. So we made a quickie ADR at the poly for lunch, parked there no problem, took the mono to the Contemp, made our purchase (slightly miffed.)

Another time, same explanation, they let us in. But there and the Boardwalk (General Store works for me as well) they've been asking more questions and giving "looks" lol.

Just came back from the final Adventures in Charity last Friday with the Adventurers Club cast and all... There was a pre-event on Thursday night at the Grand Floridian. I went early and drove to the Poly and told the gate guard I was going to Trader Sam's for drinks, which I did. He let me in. A few hours later when it was time for my event at the Grand Flo I hopped onto the monorail. Voila! I kept my Trader Sam's receipt in my wallet just in case of a problem.
