How can you help open the Magic kingdom?

OK,so my family allways wanted to help open the magic kingdom park but we did not how to get picked for it. like should we get in the gates at a certain time can you guys and gals help me and my famliy out!

oh and what does it mean to be family of the day?(my best friend wanted to know.)

Only Disney knows how - you just have to be at the right place at the right time (now where and when those are - only Disney knows)

Good morning dream!

We've never had the honor, but from reading responses on these boards about the subject, it seems like for starters, having kids helps. Obviously getting there early is another key. After that it's all about being in the right place at the right time, which i'm guessing only Disney knows. I have also read that a way to ensure that you DON'T get picked, is to start asking if you can "be the family". Disney wants to hand select them based on randomness.

Get over to the MK early, walk around the outside gates a bit, take pictures, be excited, play games, help them notice you!

I have yet to be there early enough to even have a chance at getting picked. I know i talked to a family once a few years back and they were picked from breakfast at Crystal Palace.
