How can we get a free room upgrade?

We are staying at art of animation in a couple weeks in one of the little mermaid rooms. Has anyone here seen or heard of anyone getting upgraded to a suite for free? If you have or know someone who has, do you know what they did to get the upgrade? I just looked on wdw's website and the rooms we are staying in aren't available right now so I assume they are booked solid so my wife and I are hoping for a free upgrade.

Here's the trick to upgrades and it still will not get you one most of the time. But, don't ask for one, be nice and talk to the CM. Notice their name tag and ask about where they are from. Then talk about your trip and the occasion you are visiting for and how much you are looking forward to it. Most likely you will still not get one but sometimes if the CM decides they like you and if your occasion seems like it might be better with some extra magic, they might upgrade you. But, chances are if you take this advise you will come across as not genuine and it won't work anyways. So, just always be nice in real life and in the end you'll find you catch more bees with honey than with vinegar. Did any of that make sense?

Yes and that is mostly good advice for everyone for any given place or day.

In June, we booked 3 Little Mermaid rooms at AoA for the night before our cruise. When we got there, they upgraded all 3 rooms to Cars suites. They made it seem like they were trying to get us into rooms faster because we weren't going to a park that day and it was only 9am, but I think they just overbooked the LM rooms and since we were only there for 1 night, it was easy for them to eat the cost difference and give us the suites. We absolutely loved them and are hoping to stay there next time we go back.

One of the Little Mermaid buildings had broken a/c in June. Guests had to be moved. Would not be surprised if that was the reason for the upgrade to the Cars suite.

Quite frankly, you've already had a free upgrade you don't need nor deserve another. Sorry. Be happy you got that one surprise and stop looking or expecting another one.
