How can the program help me?

Im in my senior year of High School and a big Disney fan. I'm a very good public speaker and I was thinking of majoring something in either law or some sort of public communications thing. Can Disney help me for my future career or would this just be for more of a fun time. I know it will be great regardless but I was just wondering if Disney could help me in my fields. I'd love to be some sort of person who gives presentations for Disney or something of that sort. Any ideas or comments for me?

You'll find most of the people on these boards don't do the CP just to "have fun". Of course, there are many people that focus only on the fun part of the program and miss out on the great opportunities because they get termed. I'm actually leaving for my first CP this Friday, and I'm really excited. I'm looking at this experience as my chance to prove to Disney why they should let me stay there to work and also prove to myself what it is that I would like to do for my career. Even if your career plans don't include Disney, the professional experience will definitely help to open doors for you elsewhere.

I love working at Disney. I have worked there 3 times (and will be going back this summer). Even if you don't plan on working at Disney FT, just having Disney on your resume looks great.

A lot of people have stated that it looks good on resumes.

Who knows how it could help your career. You may have a chance encounter with someone at WDW who can get you on the path to your future.

Personally, I would use it for contacts and advancements within the company. However, I'm not in the CP

Disney is a large enough company that you probably find a role in just about every degree field.

For law - the company will have lawyers. You may be interested in employment law. I am sure the company has a team for contract law, and other specializations as well. I am still too new with the company to know specifics - so I am basing my input with a little prior company knowledge.

For public communications - what do you want to do with that? I am sure there are the need for communications team to address internal and external communications. Plus, there are opportunities to speak in front of others within training, leadership development and the Disney Institute.

I believe the college program or professional internship will open networking opportunities so that you can meet the leaders in the fields that you are interested in. A smaller company may not have the same positions - so size of Disney will give you several options to explore while you are still in school.
