Going with just my son who is 14. Never been this time of year. We usually go (as a family) mid September. Can someone tell me how busy it is during the last week in August? We are arriving Aug 29 (Monday) and leaving on September 1 (Thursday). We are hoping for smaller crowds as my son does not do well with lines. Also has anyone played Pokémon Go there? My son wants to play on of the days. Lastly has Radiator Spring ride still out of fastpasses right after opening? Any tips would be great.

It will be crowded, as it is always crowded now. Expect crowds so you're not disappointed.

RSR FPs typically run out around noon most days now, and there are lots of Pokemon in both parks.

I will be there around the same time. I got the disneyland ride time app and check it every so often so I can gauge the crowd levels by the ride time waits.

I think that week (or right around there) APs who were blocked most of the summer are open again, AND they'll all be trying to see PTN and fireworks before they go away.

It was so nice not having the lower level AP groups there on weekends. Disneyland is a great place to be on saturday morning while I eat my Mickey pancake and watch the Big Thunder trains roll in.

I'm glad i will be missing the crush of APers going the see the last showings of 'Forever' and 'Paint'.
I'm expecting low crowds on the days immediately following the last showings and post-Labor Day.
Should be nice until Friday, when everyone will show up again to see the opening of 'Haunted Mansion Holiday' and 'Ghost Galaxy'.

Two days of bliss....here's hoping....

Hi all, my wife and I will be taking our two boys, 10 and 4, on their first trip to DL (we've been to WDW several times with them) from Mon. 8/30 thru Fri. 9/2. One of the reasons we chose this week is because of the expected low, or at least manageable, crowds. According to touring plans.com, crowds are expected to be in the 2,3,4 range (out of 10) during the week. I also checked the crowds for this same week before Labor Day for last year and found that crowds were quite low (with Friday ramping up to a '5'). Is there any particular reason why some are predicting higher crowds for the same week this year? Thanks in advance!

A few reasons.

One, it's always crowded at DLR. Always. Our new definition of low crowds is still crowded. Dead days just don't happen anymore.

Two, the Diamond Celebration and its accompanying entertainment - Disneyland Forever, Paint the Night and World of Color - Celebrate, ends September 5. We're predicting an influx of people to experience these shows one last time before they go away, particularly Forever and Paint the Night.

Three, the summer blockouts for lower tier Annual Passholders (of which there are several hundred thousand) end August 21. Typically the weeks between that time and Labor Day are crowded as those lower tier APs get in a last summer visit.

You may be lucky and hit a slow patch, but you should be prepared for at least moderately high crowds.

Your other points are valid, but if Touringplans doesn't account for this, their preditctions are meaningless.

I visit Disneyland more than I care to admit and I've never found TouringPlans' crowd estimates to be particularly accurate. One is better off preparing for crowds at DLR because they are omnipresent.
