Hi guys!
As I posted two days ago, I am going to WDW on Oct 11th (thursday) and my folks got a little scared about the american attacks on Sunday. I will NOT give up any trips to the USA (I am not american, I am brazilian) because of any terrorist threat. If I do it, I will be doing what they want, which is to scare people and turn them against the USA. I just would like to have some information on how things are going there at WDW, like secdurity, crowds, park hours, so on... Just to be assured that I WILL have a great trip (as I believe it is impossibel not to have one in WDW). I am sure the terrorists will never destroy America and the precious magic feeling we have at WDW. See you!

tati,

good for you, not putting off your trip to wdw.

i don't know how the crowds are there this week -- others here probably know better -- but i've been thinking about security at wdw too. i'm going there oct. 21.

the way i see it, there are many better targets for terrorists than wdw. at this time of year there are fewer than 30,000 visitors to wdw each WEEK. and they're spread out over the area the size of boston.

even the lousiest baseball teams -- i'm in chicago, i know lousy baseball teams -- pull in 30,000 people for each game. and all those people are together in one comparatively small place.

also, air travel in the u.s. has got to be safer than it has ever been. it's like eating at a restaurant that re-opens after being shut down by the health inspector. you know it's going to be cleaner than ever.

beyond that, i'll bet disney has stepped up its own security. and those folks are probably the best in the business. so, enjoy!

i've read that Disney has more security at the entrances, and now the security people can check in things that you bring in the park, such as bags, purses, backpacks, etc.

"Security is now more noticeable at Disney World's parks -- the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios and Animal Kingdom -- with uniformed guards almost always visible. Guests must have their bags searched before entering the parks."
you can find that quote here: http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/goingtodisneyworld
message# 1989

hope that helps you!

Yeah..be prepared to have anything you have along to be searched...depending on the guard they'll make you take everything out and open all the pockets in any purse, pack, diaper bag, stroller, backpack, etc you have.

We just got back from Disney yesterday. Security is everywhere. There seemed to be even more security this past Saturday. They do check your bags before entering the parks. This goes fairly quickly so you do not wait in line very long. When you enter the hotel area you have to show you conformation letter and your license. The crowds were not too bad. They varied depending on the day. Usually there was not too long of a wait on the rides. Some of the most popular rides were averaging a 30 minute wait. On our first day we rode Buzz and were able to get right back on. Do watch out for all of the rude people. I have never seen so many rude people at Disney before. Go and have a great time! The weather was also real nice this past week. We were there for 9 days and only had rain one day. The temperatures are bearable (for a mountain girl who can't stand the heat). Hope this helps. Thanks for letting me ramble on!

I am going next week to WDW and I called Coronado Springs to see about security. They told me that no backpacks are allowed in the parks anymore. Has anyone else heard this? I wonder how I can carry my camcorder (an ancient large one!).

You CAN bring in a camcorder..they're just checking your bags for weapons, glass bottles, things like that. Backpacks and the such are still allowed.

They're just making sure you don't have somethign you shouldn't have.

well i'm glad you can still take backpacks!! i hate packing around packs!! (my Rick O'Connel action figure couldn't fit in it!) plus mine is always so heavy that it makes my stomach hurt for some reason...(strange, huh?)
anyway, i know they're doing the bag checking thing for safety reasons, and i know it's makeing people feel safer about being there, but, to me, it's gonna get old really fast! i just want everything to go back to normal...but i guess they never really will...not for a long time at least. personally, i'd feel safe at Disney with or without them checking bags.
