How a Comcast takeover will affect WDW Parks

If Comcast wins their take-over attempt of Disney, it would be bad news for the parks. Comcast is only interested in Disney for its cable channels, not its parks. Comcast has no experience running theme parks. Parks would suffer under a Comcast take-over!

Walt was an animator. He had no idea how to run theme parks until he tried. Just because Comcast is only involved in TV now, does not mean that they will not bring in the right people to run the Disney resort.

Comcast

As a current Comcast subscriber, I can tell you that they don't even know how to run the cable company, let alone something like WDW. Their customer service is nearly non-existent, and when you do reach someone, they are rarely pleasant or timely.

I'm sorry, but a company that is accustomed to running monopolistic utilities does not have what it takes to provide any "Disney Magic."

I don't think Comcast would get rid of all the people who DO know how to run the parks if they merged anyway. They're not that dumb. Besides they said they would help th parks. I quote "On Comcast's conference call, Steve Burke, head of the company's cable division, told investors that Comcast believed it could greatly improve the performance of several of Disney's key businesses, including ABC, the ABC Family channel, ANIMATION AND THEME PARKS." I think we'll be okay if this happens.

"Comcast also has extensive holdings in media content providers, with majority stakes in Comcast-Spectacor, the owner of the Philadelphia Flyers." Disney and Flyers hockey. Dreams really do come true.

Although I have made it clear in another thread that at this point I am very much against this idea and too feel it is bad for the parks and the entire company, there was one encouraging section of their "merger proposal" in that they actually did address the theme parks as such:

The Disney theme parks are America's favorite vacation destiantion
-Drive attendance via advertising and cross-promotionm in all aspects of combined company
-Restore energy and creativity in attractions, hotels and concessions

So they at least have intentions of keeping the theme parks, unlike GE who recently bought Universal which has publicly said they have little interest in the parks but will keep them for the time being until they make a final decision. I think I need a lot more facts before I can say this will for sure be good or bad for the parks, or for the company as a whole. Its not like it will become Comcast World, right? ;)

Like I said in the other thread, they can take all the media they want, but leave animation and theme parks to Disney. Specifically ROY Disney.

Comcast/Disney

A combined Comcast-Disney would be just like Time-Warner, but only not as big, but getting close. Time-Warner, used to own Six Flags but became so big that it lost its focus on its theme parks, eventually selling Six Flags off. A combined Comcast-Disney may be in a similiar situation, forcing the huge company to sell its theme parks as well (even if they tell you now they intend to keep them). At least NBC is being realistic when they say they don't know about keeping the Universal theme parks.

I'm curious to know if they actually mean they want to bring Disney back to their former glory. I mean, it could be just all talk to get the board, Eisner, and the stockholders to like them enough to allow the deal to go through and then back stab everyone and turn Disney World into Universal :lookaroun Oh great, just another Eisner then.

It all about Values - The company known as Disney would go to HELL if Comcast bought it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is very very very bad news. The Disney company right now is not great but their Values and idea are that Walt created. If Comcast comes in IT WILL BE ONLY ON EARNINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am very ignorant as to what is going on, I am a little frightened, but something new is what we need, and maybe they could offer some fresh input...
We just need to take it one day at a time.

Disney's theme parks, especially WDW are the most attended in the world, no company would want to lose that.

I, for one, kind of like this idea. How do we KNOW that they will ruin everything? They've denied it but I, personally, think that Roy brought this idea to them. Heck, half of the executives in ComCast used to work for Disney. The company has been sitting on the rail and trying to play it too safe since Walt died. Even IF this were to get approved by the FCC, I think it would be a great thing. Kind of ironic isn't it? Eisner & Wells (may he RIP) were brought in to PREVENT a hostile takeover in the 80's. Anyway, regardless of what happens, I think we can only win. ComCast isn't in the business of running theme parks. They'll keep the asset but let someone else run it and collect their share of it. If the deal doesn't go through (and it's going to be sheer luck if the FCC approves it) then maybe, just maybe, Eisner will be shaken up enough to step down or at least pay attention to those around him. I prefer to be an optomist on this one myself. We'll juat have to see.

I think it is great. My Flyers, my 76ers, my high speed internet, my digital cable, and now Disney all owned by the same company. It's great - granted i feel like a zombie, but who cares. Mindless that is how they want me as long as I go keep going to the games and keep taking vacations at Disney.

I'm going to have to disagree with you. I am also a Comcast subscriber and we are in the process of getting Comcast internet...we have talked to over 5 different employees in customer service and they have been nothing but helpful and friendly and accomodating. Perhaps the problem isn't with the company as a whole, but rather with certian employees in your area...have you called and made a complaint?

Maybe Comcast will provide the billions of dollars needed, in the same manner the Oriental Land Compay does, and inable to build parks to their full potential, like Tokyo Disney Sea!

I know this is far fetched, but hey, we can dream!

ok, i agree that comcast cable customer service is rigid and unfriendly. The mismanage the flyers, they are ok with iverson as a roll model for the 76ers. and the internet is down more than up. I dislike everything about comcast.
