Houston or Atlanta?

I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and I would like to go see the Cubs play this year since it has been a LONG time since I have been to a game. The closest places are Houston or Atlanta. I think it is about a 6 hour drive either way so that isn't the deciding factor. My friend was telling me that Atlanta is much less confusing than Houston. It is very easy to get lost in Houston apparantly. So what are the pros and cons of each city? I'm sure there are many people from here that live in both cities. Thanks:)

I've driven through Houston once and can't say much about that city, but I live in the Atlanta area and traffic here is horrible. I don't know how Atlanta could be any less confusing than anywhere, it is a very poorly laid out city and doesn't have the best public transportation system. They say there are about 50-60 streets in town that all have the word "Peach" in their name so following directions can be difficult. With that being said, the stadium is not too hard to get to and there are plenty of hotels in that area. I think some hotels in the downtown area offer special ticket packages so if you decide to go to Atlanta you might want to look into the package deals. There's also plenty of Cubs fans here so you wouldn't feel out of place cheering for the cubbies. There's also plenty of other things to do in town between the aquarium, coke museum, stone mountain, and a six flags. We're also known for our shopping and strip clubs, so i'm sure you won't run out of things to do if you decide to visit Atlanta.

I lived in Houston for just under a year and learned to despise that city. Go to Atlanta.

Having been to both cities, I actually found Houston not as bad as Atlanta.

Also, I would think that Houston would be a little close for you than Atlanta. I figure Atl. is probably closer to 7-8 hours for you.

Thanks for the advice...my friend really likes Atlanta...he said the aquarium is amazing...

I did a mileage check on the internet and it said it is 365 miles to Houston and 364 to Atlanta...but I'm not sure those are really accurate.

The only other thing that may swing the decision is the Cubs are only playing in Atlanta once and that is Aug 12,13 &14...which is a Tues, Wed, Thurs. That may be more difficult for my husband to take time off because he is saving his one week of vacation for our Dec WDW trip.

If you're a Cubs fan (smart girl!) you'll probably feel more welcome in Atlanta. I think there are a good number of Cubs fans there. Plus, I'd rather see the Braves play.

Caroline--I've been to both parks and it's really a wash on the cities. We had no problems in Houston and getting to the park. Plus, if you go to Houston in the summertime, the roof will possibly be closed for the game, meaning AIR CONDITIONING! Both parks are nice.

You could always drive a little further and come to St. Petersburg when the Rays play the Cubs this summer. :)

I saw that they were playing the Rays...hmm that could be a good excuse to go to WDW for a day or two also..:drevil:

Edit: I just looked it up and they are playing them June 17,18 & 19(Tues, Wed & Thurs)...so it may be Houston after all..we'll see..
