Housekeeping extras

Last year we went to Port Orleans Riverside with our then almost 2 year old. Every day housekeeping would arrange her stuffed animals into the cutest scenes. For example, one day they were all sitting at the window waiting for her to come back. A different day they arranged them to watch the Disney channel. The also left wash rags arranged as bunnies and Halloween ghosts. She had the greates time coming back to see them.

We are going again in Oct and I was wondering if this was a standard thing they do at most of the hotels. It was something we all looked forward too and she remembers it and really is looking forward to it again.

Unfortunately, it is not a standard event and not required of the housekeepers. It really depends on who you get........I've heard of guests leaving a daily tip in an envelope as an incentive. While somewhat effective, that still doesn't guarantee that the housekeeper will do towel animals or arrange plush for you.....Sorry. Best to prepare your DD now and if it does happens, she will end up even happier.

Have a great trip.:)

We stayed at the WL in April 2002 and every day we also came back to find the towels in the shapes of all different kinds of animals (complete with stickers for the eyes and nose)! In Nov. of 2000 we stayed at the Poly and would come back to find our towels in the shape of "2000" for the millinieum celebration. Have a great trip!:)

We had a great experience with housekeeping at Boardwalk Villas. My wife bought a Pluto stuffed animal and we returned each night to find him watching tv or peering down at us from on top of the armoire. They also made the wash clothes look like tuxedos and other little tricks with the towels. It was great.

We stayed the All Star Music and on our trip housekeeping made us a little towel dog the first day and that was it. I was hoping for more, but I was glad with what I got.

The 1st time we experinced this was at Poly when our DD was 8 months old. They did towel animals and rearanded her toys. I think Poly is rather well known for this.

After that we bought DVC. I don't miss them cleaning the room daily, but I do miss the towel animals and the like. Oh well, win some lose some.

Just got back from a 7 day stay (7/27-8/2) at PORS and we saw no animal towel art  Last years stay at CBR we were treated to animal towel everyday :sohappy: So I think it depends on who you get to clean your room. The kids were looking forward to it on this trip too.. oh well maybe next year. BTW last year left no tips(towel art) … this year left tips(no towel art) go figure:hammer:

It definitely depends on your housekeeper. Last year at Port Orleans Riverside, we were expecting these things to happen and I had even geared the kids up for it and each day nothing happened. We left pretty nice tips everyday and even went so far as to set up the plush toys holding signs thanking her each day...but still...nothing. I think we were irritating our housekeeper because she went so far as to turn off our airconditioner one day and when we returned to the room at night it was HOT! It is clearly hit or miss.

Yes, it definitely depends on where you're staying, and in no way does a more expensive resort mean you're getting more in this case! The first time I noticed all of this was at the All-Star, with the stuffed animals in the windows. We've never had anything like that happen at the Y&B club.

I never had anything happen at the Boardwalk Inn but at the CBR they played around with the animals a lot and we got face cloth rabbits!

Beware at AKL...Our housekeeping lady made us towel elephants and bunnies with stickers on them every day for the two weeks we were there, which was so nice and really added to the "magic". On our third to last day, our neighbors and I had a problem with a noise between our walls, and after a run around with maintenance, the afternoon manager at AKL came up to inspect our rooms. Immediately she commented on the 10-12 towel bunnies and elephants on our sink. We thought nothing of it and told her how nice our housekeeper was to make them each afternoon for us. She seemed a little uneasy, but remained pleasant. For the next two days, we didn't see our regular housekeeper and found it rather strange. When we asked another housekeeper about it, she told us that she had been given a "mandatory leave of absence". We never saw her again.

This kind of disappointing. We have gone every year of our marriage and we thought they might have done this because of the stuffed animals lying around and that it was Halloween. We even saw it on Great Hotels when she did one on the Grand Floridian. I had kind of hoped it would happen because you had kids and they wanted to make it special for them. Oh, well, if they don't then I might just have to sneak back to the room and do it myself.

That is really sad that they had to go and do something like that, especially when it seems that a lot of the housekeeping staff does it! On my last trip there in June at All Star Music we got a washcloth made into a baby bunny and some large animal made out of a bath towel. Not sure what it was supposed to be, but it was definitely a pleasant surprise.

Yeah. It really made us mad and upset. We were going to send a complaint, but just figured that the manager would get it, so it would be no use anyways. What a way to spoil everyone's fun.

Yeah really... maybe a complaint would have been a good thing? Even if the manager was the only one to get it, at least he'd know that the little extras that housekeeping left you actually helped to make your trip more memorible. Also, you said that you had a lot of the towel animals, maybe he canned her for making them excessively? They have to know that housekeeping makes them sometimes, but it sounds like this housekeeper made a zoo of them for you, which would be really cool!

Did you leave these great housekeepers monetary tips or trinkets? I'm wondering what I should leave especially if I get that kind of service. Do you think they would appreciate items from our home state or do you think they are trying to up their tip money... (And I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that, either)
I'm staying at CBR with my two kids and that will be neat for them..

Last year, when it was my husband & I and our three kids, we left $8 per day...The most common amount Ive seen is a buck a day, per person...we left a little extra in hopes that housekeeping would get creative and leave us a suprise like others have had but it didnt work.
