Can anyone give me any advice on off-site hotels that are actually within walking distance to the main entrance to Universal? Thanks in advance.

How far is walking distance for you? You could cross the street from the Twin Towers, but you would still have to walk a few hundred yards to get to the actual entrance to city walk. The Twin Towers are probably your best bet, but they are pretty expensive. If you want a cheaper one within walking distance you are (unfortunately) out of luck.

Well, several motels on different websites claim to be within walking distance. Some claim to be across the street, some claim to be within 3 blocks. I found a Days Inn at Maingate Universal that claims to be within walking distance, and a Best Western that claims to be across the street. Given the size of the park, these claims could be a little misleading.

They are very misleading.

There is a motel across the street from Uni, but's on the side of the property, so you would have actually walk about a mile inorder to get the main gate. I know if I had to do that I would hate the rest of my day no matter what.

Sheraton Studio City, the big tower, is not far away, but it'll take a while walking to get over to CityWalk. Take a resort shuttle unless you want to walk.

It depends upon what you consider the entrance to the park! Technically, the entrance is where you turn in from public property. The admission gates are are different matter.

We stayed at the towers once, and opted to drive rather than risk crossing the main street. It was also a fair distance to the park itself; I think mkt was underestimating the distance. (Of course, he's a lot younger, and walks faster than I do.)
I just remember being glad we hadn't tried to walk.
