Hi Everyone! My parents and I are planning a trip to DL in July to celebrate my 21st birthday, but we are having a little trouble picking a hotel. We definetly want to stay at a DL hotel but we just cant figure out which one. I would like to stay at the Disneyland Hotel because it was the first hotel on property, but we have heard good things about grand california hotel, but i dont like the woodisue outdoorsie feel. So any suggestions????

Any has anyone every booked their hotel and tickets off of disneyland.com with the packages they have ( i know they had one a while ago where you got some HCOE merchandise)??? If so, how was it?

Both times I went to DL, I booked through disneyland.com For WDW, I would never book a pakage but for some reason DL packages work out to be a great price. My last trip in May I stayed at the Hilton. With the package price it came out to $130 a night. Had I booked directly with the Hilton, it would have came out to $190 a night.

As for the DL hotels, I have only stayed at Paradise Pier. The hotel was nice, but nothing more than a Hilton or Sheraton type of hotel with some disney touches. I had an upper level DCA park view and that was awseome. As for the Disneyland Hotel and Grand Californian, I have only visited them. If money is not and issue, I'd stay at the Grand Californian. This hotel is very nice and similar to the Wilderness Lodge. You'll have your own entrance into DCA and is the closest hotel to the esplanade, where you enter DL and DCA. Check out the prices on disneyland.com and see if everything works out cheaper booking a la carte or as a package.

I stayed at the Desert Inn this past August, and while it is a Disney Good Neighbor Hotel, it is not an actual Disneyland hotel. Still very nice. They have spacious rooms and a pool. Directly across from a pathway to which leads right to the entrance of DCA, DL, and DTD.

Here's their website.

I am going to DL this weekend on my big California trip. We are staying at the Disneyland Hotel (for a really good price -- around $100/night AP rate). I will let you know what I think when I get back. But I picked it for the same reason you discussed: it was the first, and Walt went there. It is also the closest to the original DL park. (Grand Floridian, uh, er, Californian is obviously closest to the DCA park.)

The Disneyland Hotel is not the closest to the Magic Kingdom park, unless you are talking about getting there by monorail. It's a 10 minutes walk unless, and that's if you are not taking your time to look at stuff in the Downtown Disney district.

I've been to the Disneyland Hotel last year and going back again in may. I loved it! The inside feels like a standard Holiday Inn at first, but then you realised that there are lotsa little Disney things all around your room. My favorite would have to be the Tinker Bell decorations with her pixie dust. Very nice.

I can highly recommend the Grand Californian -- to me, it seemed the most like the resorts at WDW as far as amenities, moderness, and convenience to the park. Let us know what you decide, and have fun!
