We are going to Disney from 5/16-5/25. We typically stay on-site, but because there are 5 in our family and we only want one room, our options were limited pretty much to POR (we cannot afford to do a deluxe and we could not even get the AAA rate at POR!!), so we looked off-site. We booked a Deluxe Tower room at the Hotel Royal Plaza and I have been reading some reviews online and they vary widely. Anyone here ever stay there? What was your experience? I am crossing my fingers that some good discount codes open up soon!

My opinion of the resort might not carry to much wait as it has been almost 7 years to the day since I have stayed there and the hotel has undergone a rather extensive refurb since then. It was about on par with the rest of the hotels on HPB. Nothing great...a decent room but not much more. One thing I can tell you for sure is to not rely on the shuttle service to get around. There is one bus route that serves all of the resorts on HPB so it takes a good hour or more to get anywhere. I would add the price of a rental car to your room rate and see if it is on par with PORS, or 2 rooms at a value without the rental car.

We stayed there this past Sept because my DH had meetings that that resort. I have to tell you that I am an on site person but I enjoyed staying there. We all liked the room. There were five of us and with the two beds & the pull out sofa we had plenty of room. The bathroom had a large corner tub that the kids liked.
The room was much bigger than the rooms at Caribbean beach & the Allstar resorts. I felt like we were still at Disney because we were so close to Down Town Disney. We never walked there but you could have if you wanted to.
They have a Disney store in the lobby and it was nice.
The pool was nice and they had a place to do laundry close by.
The only draw back was the bus system. I never used it but my husband did one day to meet us at Epcot. The bus goes to all of the hotels around there and then to each park. It took him an hour to get to Epcot. We just drove in each day and paid to park. It was no big deal. I liked having my car there anyway.
Overall, I would stay there again but I had rather be at a Disney resort just because of the Theme of Disney everywhere you turn.
