Hotel Recommendation

I am taking the family (two adults, two small children) to WDW in September and our trip begins on a Monday. We are driving in from Georgia and hope to make it pretty close on Sunday evening. We are looking for a good place to before we check into Disney the following day.

Does anyone have a good hotel recommendation in Gainesville, Ocala or even Orlando? We probably prefer an inexpensive suites type hotel that is not too far out of our way. We don't need any frill, just a place to spend the night so that we can arrive at a decent time the next morning at WDW.

I think the best thing is to stay in Disney. I have stay outside Disney before and I didn't like it. I think you should stay in Disney then you also don't have to pay the fee to park your car at the parking lots. There are also the value resorts. Pop is the best of them all.

nemo14, our objective to staying somewhere else the night before our Disney vacation begins was to save a money and also, to give us a full first day instead of a day primarily in the car.

However, considering that we are getting free dining, another night at Disney, although more expensive on the rack rate, could be more economical if we get another day of free dining.

They only need one night's lodging off site to avoid checking in late and wasting a day.

If you can forgo the size of a suite type of property, a night at one of the All-Star Resorts...it's inexpensive and I believe you'll get the dining plan. If space is an issue, 2 rooms may sill be the same cost as one of the upper-end suites resorts.

Another option is the Caribe Royale. I was there for a conference in April. Nice pool with a waterfall, very nice, new fitness center. If I recall my rate was $185/night. Eat off property though, they were very pricy for the few meals that weren't included in my conference.

I had some friends that were going to Disney recently and they called me about where to stay. They were looking at some of the Downtown Disney hotels..i.e. Grosvenor,Best Western, Sheraton, etc. while I was trying to talk them into staying at a Disney resort.

They said no, that the $$ were important...so I had to show them that a room at POP CENTURY in July was $99... vs. their Best Western room that was $139.

It use to be a savings in the old days to stay in the Downtown Disney hotels and others, but with the Value resorts at Disney and the convenience and overall Disney experience I dont know why anyone would. I think most people just assume that staying at a Disney resort will be expensive.

Luckly I'm a DVC Member now so I get my full Disney experience when I at WDW.
