Planning a trip to Disneyland next year. Which of the three resorts on property would you stay at and why?

I'm spending your money? Then Grand Californian. Staying adjacent to the parks is pretty awesome.

My money? That's harder. Probably Disneyland Hotel, but the price has been hard to justify for a while.

Grand Californian is nicest of the 3 resorts
Disneyland Hotel has history and is just a quick stagger back from Trader Sam's
I'd rather stay at a offsite hotel than Paradise Pier

My personal favorite is the Disneyland Hotel, but I have only heard great things about the Grand Californian. Whatever you do don't stay at Paradise Pier. There is no better way to waste your money and throw away $400 at a hotel when the $100 Best Western across the street has nicer rooms and is closer to the parks.

Tbh, unless you are 100% set on staying onsite and can afford it, I would really suggest staying at a good neighbor hotel. They are closer to the parks (besides Grand), *some* have nicer rooms, *some* have nicer pools, some even have Starbucks in the lobbies and they are much much cheaper than the Disney hotels.

It really depends on what your highest priority would be. If it is saving money, then absolutely the neighboring hotels along Harbor should be considered. On the other hand, if you are coming in as a tourist and want to stay in the Disney Bubble (to best replicate that same WDW feeling), then staying at DLH or GCH is definitely worth it (although I would agree with others that say PPH is a bit on the periphery and may not really be as convenient).

The biggest downside to staying at the neighbor hotels along Harbor and leaving the Disney bubble, is putting up with the panhandlers, buskers, and shady salesman that line Harbor Blvd. If you are accustomed to traveling and understand the experience, it really isn't that much different from walking around Paris or New York. Just watch your back pocket and don't talk to anyone.

If you choose a hotel that is further away, and doesn't offer a shuttle service, do know that it may be difficult and/or stressful to obtain an Uber/Lyft car from the designated pickup area around closing time.

I think Disneyland Hotel has the best looking room. Out of the three Disney hotels. Grand Californian look elegant on the exterior wise. But the rooms for me left a lot to be desired. I think they look so outdated and too rustic for my taste.
I rather stay in Anaheim new luxury hotels than stay in the Disney bubble.

The two new 4 Diamond Hotels in Anaheim are the J.W. Marriott and the Westin.

The Westin looks really nice, the rooftop restaurant looks like it'd be a great dinner for the arrival day during fireworks. Putting it on my list for a future trip!

The only real perks I think of staying at a Disneyland hotel is the extra magic hours, which a) probably wont return for years post-pandemic, b) if you buy a 3-day ticket you get those anyway, and c) you really don't need them in the parks in CA, minus Christmas week you can pretty much get all the must-dos in each park done during the normal park hours.

For absolute convenience, you can't beat the Grand Californian for being able to walk directly from your hotel into a park (DCA).

That said, for only a slightly longer walk through Downtown Disney, I think the Disneyland Hotel is the more "Disney-ish" choice.

So it's up to you: convenience and a slight more luxurious experience at the Grand or the more Disney experience at DLH. Either way you'll have a great place to stay!
