Hot takes! Get ‘em while they’re hot! Mmm!

I don’t have a lot of hot takes but one of them is that Hyperspace Mountain is better than regular Space Mountain at Disneyland. I won’t even say classic because that would have been the 1977 version with no music.

I have a hot take that will upset a lot of people. I prefer WDW Magic Kingdom's Space Mountain to Disneyland's. In fact, I thought I was crazy in this take but I went to WDW in July and DL in October and came away still preferring MK's Space.

Agree! I always found Muppet Vision to be good, but not great. As for 3D shows, it sits above Captain EO and PhilharMagic for me, but below HISTA and certainly TTBAB. It was definitely time to go for Muppet Vision.

Muppet Vision was always a highlight of a trip to DCA. I like PhilharMagic and think it's entertaining but it's definitely a big step below.

The issue really is that the core MuppetVision audience is aging out and younger kids don't have the same connection to the Muppets that kids that visited Disney in the 1990s - 2000s did.

Hot take from a different bayou:

Now this next one may anger some of you. You may think I’m either not old enough to appreciate it, or I’m so old I’ve lost my marbles. But I have to say this:

Pirates feels like a museum piece and needs a drastic overhaul.

The first act is still strong. The bayou, the caves, the skeletons… all still good. It doesn’t need to be sped up, it’s still a good pace. But right after the ship attack, the thing just doesn’t work anymore.

I’m trying to put my finger on what it is. Perhaps it’s because all the staging is meant to represent “wild activities” ransacking, etc. But everything is a limited movement animatronic. These are OLD animatronics.

Jack Sparrow’s presence doesn’t really help. He is a person from a much more lively world than this wax museum.

The revision of the auction scene also doesn’t help either. I don’t think the original auction scene would come off as engaging and lively today, but at least you understood what was really going on. It was a quick bit to get. I don’t think rum and chickens make sense.

I didn’t really mind losing the pirates chasing the women scene 20 years ago, but now with the new auction scene the lack of direct storytelling is becoming obvious. Before it was “oh no look at the pirates do these bad things (in kind of a funny way)!” Now, it’s a stiffly moving vague party going on?

Honestly, I think if I were in charge, I’d use the space in the middle of the town for another lift and drop down a chute. Put more emphasis on sword play and more battles. Baxter was right to put another waterfall in towards the end of the Paris version.

And the scene where all the creaky wood is catching fire? It’s so dusty! It’s hard to maintain an illusion that this is a lived in place that JUST caught on fire when there’s flakes of dust everywhere!

It brings me no joy to say this, because it used to be my favorite ride. But it needs serious help. Perhaps, like tomorrowland, it’s waiting for a rebirth of IP to justify an overhaul.

More hot takes to come!
I don't necessarily disagree with you on this take. However in October when I went on a daddy / daughter trip with my 5 year old and 7 year old daughters, my girls absolutely loved this ride. I think we must've gone on Pirates 4 - 5 times over the course of two days.

Pirates isn't without its faults but it is a masterpiece (even with the changes) and kids still love it. I know IP is replacing most non IP across Disney but I really don't want this to be touched very much more than it already has.

While I don't completely agree, I really enjoy how different both of the US Space Mountains are from each other.

I wish we had more attractions where each version was truly *distinctive*, but not in such a way that one is obviously superior to the other. Both US Space Mountains have merits, and that isn't acknowledged enough IMO.

I agree. Even while I enjoyed DCA's TOT more than the Florida original; the story, elements, style, and ride experience is the same from an average guest perspective. This redundancy makes me less likely to visit other parks as well as invites direct comparisons between clones.

Test Track, Radiator Springs, and Journey to the Center of the Earth is the perfect way to give us different versions of the same. While the ride system and ride experience are essentially the same, the completely different executions and surrounding ambiance is so unique. If I like riding Test Track and find out that there are other versions of the same ride, but with way different stories and elements, then I want to ride that! I'd love to see each Haunted Mansion being similar in spirit (no pun intended) but more different in setting and gags.

Phantom Manor is the draw for me visiting DLP. And even the differences in that ride are mostly surface-level.

I thought they've been very open about the new cars ride for MK not being their slot car tech nor experience. The rally race is being advertised with the terrain being the interest, not the speed.

The Imagineering video on Youtube contradicted this information.

I don't get the appeal of Fresh Baked. He's one of the most popular resident vloggers in the park and he gets recognized in the parks. I tried to watch a couple of his vids but he makes 1 hour length vids that are parks related. I'm sorry if he has fans here.

He just like all Disneyland vloggers have their appeal to casual fans that don't get to go to the Parks all the time, especially with providing updates to new things coming and construction updates. He just happens to be more popular because he puts up videos more regularly than other Disneyland vloggers. He has videos of varying lengths, what you've probably seen that are an 1 hour long are the "State of <insert name of park here>" videos which are monthly updates and tend to be longer in format as he goes around the specific park the video is about to give updates about the latest happenings. His weekly construction update videos tend to be shorter, 20-30 minutes in length.

Around here most look down on the vlogger crowd.

He takes good footage and his attitude is generally positive, but he’s not over-caffeinated and excitably annoying. He’ll critique things that aren’t up to snuff, but he’s not a negative paranoid nut about it.

I remember Fresh Baked when they were a group. Don't know if they had a fallout. Do yall watch his hour long vids from start to finish? I initially though he was just live streaming the parks but it's vlogs.

I watch some of them just see what's changing but I skip around.

this is just a guess, but I’m thinking one of the reasons for Paris to get this Up swings ride is to split costs of reskinning Silly Symphony Swings to better fit Pixar Pier.

It’s possible and to take it a step further, if true, that would kind of confirm Coco going in the Pixar Pier plot (or that it was at least at one point the Plan) as I don’t see Disney investing in that area or attraction without a larger purpose.
