Hospitals near the parks and First Aid in Park

We are staying at POFQ for the next week. Both my wife and my youngest child has allergic reactions to ant bites. We have the epi-pens with us but I wanted to know if there are first aid stations and/or EMTs trained to handle anaphylatic shock in the park? Also, where is the closest hospital ER? Thanks.

The reason I'm so paranoid about this is my wife had her reaction in Hilton Head while we were on vacation and we couldn't find a hospital quickly. Luckily, we found a doctor's office nearby.

I know there is a hospital in Celebration. I have used the First Aid centers in MK and Epcot and been very pleased with them. My 4 year old was feeling feverish one night at MK and I took her to the First Aid center where they took her temperature. It was 104.8F and they immediately gave her a dose of Motrin (no charge) and offered to call the Urgent Care shuttle to come pick us up at the park gates. We had our own vehicle so didn't take them up on it (turns out she had strep throat.)

I am sure there are frequent medical emergencies in the parks and that Disney has a well practiced plan to handle them. But I agree that contacting Disney before your trip would be a good plan.

the closest hospital is celebration -thats where people go if something mjor happens to them at WDW.

as for the first aid places:

MGM: by entrance inside park. its between the first shop on the left and the place which sells pics of movie stars and such.

MK: by toilets off main street. its by crystal place (which is before adventureland).

these places are all on the park maps and if you have a problem just inform a CM and they should help you.:)

Celebration is the closest and the one Disney sends you too. In 2004, my wife had a problem with her pregnacy and they rushed her to Celebration.

There is another first aid station in MK by Odyssey building. We used it last year (simply needed a bandaid for a blister). There were several people being treated in there with everything from a bleeding injured arm on an infant (looked like they fell) and an older man who was showing signs of heat stroke.

They seemed to be taking care of people faster than most emergency rooms I've seen.

We waited until they had the other people dealt with then asked for our bandaid. Again there was no charge and service with a smile.

One trip on the way to the airport to go back home, my younger son fell off a curb and cut his head. :hammer: We did a trip to Celebration hospital for stitches.

As such, we missed our scheduled flight home. I was able to get my wife and younger son on the next flight out. My other son and I were on stand-by. He got weapy and said "What happens if we don't get on the flight?." I told him that since our tickets were still good, we would go back to the park and spend the rest of the day there and fly out in the morning.

Never saw anyone so disappointed to clear the standby list.

As already mentioned, there are First Aid stations at every park They are usually at the entrance, but check the maps or ask at Guest Relations when you arrive, as they can be a little bit tucked away. .

Also, if you have a real emergency (as I'm pretty sure anaphylatic shock could be) just find a Cast Member and tell them what's going on. They should be able to either call for an ambulance or direct you to the nearest place to get help. The CMs in the shops are probably the easiest to get help from, as they'll have more direct access to a telephone.

Reedy Creek runs the EMT/Fire respnce teams on property, and they're never more than a few minutes away.

As we found out, all you have to do is go to the nearest CM and tell them the problem. We had to with my daughter, she didn't want to go but the lady at the Judges Tent gave her a stuffed Mickey for FREE to get her go. They took her by ambulance, which is also FREE, to Celebration. That is where all the FREE stuff ends.

In the event of an emergency on Disney property, contact any Cast Member or call 911 yourself from a land line phone only. If you call 911 from a cell phone, emergency care will be dispatched from Orlando and this may delay their arrival. If you use any land line phone (payphone, Cast phone, etc) emergency care will be dispatched from Reedy Creek Emergency Services (Disney) who are on property and will have direct back stage access to arrive at your location much faster.

For non-emergencies, quality in-room medical and dental care is available.

JPVonDrake - Thanks for the wonderful info - My daughter got strep last June and her doctor wouldn't call in a script for her :hammer: . So we ended up going to ER at Celebration because I had no idea where else to go. I wish the person I spoke with at the Beech Club told me about Central Care or Doctors on Call. I have printed out you post and put it with all my important papers for our July trip - After our trip last year, I want to be prepared!

BTW - Celebration ER was a class act! Everyone that we encounted was fabulous!

About ambulances..

There's a team waiting with a little "mini ambulance" (it's really a suped-up golf cart with triage in the back) in each park. They usually respond to any report event within minutes.

At the same time, if they know it's major, there's a full blown ambulance being dispatched to the park itself, from several locations around WDW. The most commonly seen is the location on Beuna Vista Drive that is minutes from MGM and Epcot.

By the time they'd pick you up in the park, and get you to the rendez-vous location, the large Ambulance is waiting, and you're off to Celebration hospital. So, in short, they're more than ready for anything.

And about Ants - WDW has an extensive Pest Control department. They spray for all kinds of buggies and particularly in the parks, go after ants with a vengence. Occasionally they'll start to creep in from the surround wooded areas, but they don't last long. CM's report any sightings and they're obliterated within a day or less.

If you see any ants, let a CM know. Typically, you'll not see them at WDW though.

I have to say I don't really ever recall seeing the ants that bite at WDW, those are usually the larger variety, the only ones I've ever seen and it's only been once in a while when an ice cream has been dropped near shrubbery and you might see the little ants. They are very good about keeping the place bug free which is no easy task with the amount of people that come through the doors eating, drinking and dropping stuff all over the place.
