Horrible Transportation

I ubered this pass trip for the first time ever in WDW and it was more then once. But I've always had great experiences with the buses. But this time around it was awful. I was there Monday - yesterday and the wait times were just awful

After visiting Magic Kingdom on July 28th I was rather appalled at the lack of transportation times. After leaving the park at 10:00 (closing time which is ridiculous in the summer months) we waited for an hour for a ferry boat. Monorail lines were just as long. I've been an avid visitor since 1975 and have visited recently during spring break, Thanksgiving and Christmas and I've never waited more than one or two ferries. And the problem is everyone exits the park at the same time after HEA. And because of a lack of night time entertainment the parades which can vary the exit times for many people. I might be in the minority but the raising of ticket prices, cutting the hours during the summer and cutting out the night parade is a real bummer. I mean they built the extra docks for the ferry why not run three ferries instead of two. I'm just sounding off
Dumping everyone out of the park after HEA was a very short sighted decision. It is frustrating for those staying at the resort hotels as well. It is a long wait until you can catch a bus. Raise ticket prices and close the park at the ridiculous hour of 10. Someone has dropped the ball at Disney.

Well, how ya gonna sell $20 MinnieVan rides if everybody can just swoosh around the property on the free buses?

Because thats one of the ways TDO extracts more profit at the expense of the guest experience.

The Uber thing irks me like MyMagic did. It simulates a solution but is really outsourcing the problem to the guest (at a cost, I might add). Does the general public not see this? MM+ didnt add any capacity. C'mon people! Lol.

We found out yesterday as we were planning our trip for next summer that ticket prices are up 9% and resort cost have also increased. Disney eliminates the night parade, then reduces park hours, closes rides early and one has to wonder if Disney has much concern for the patrons. . The leadership at Disney is taking them in a much different direction. Disney is a special place for my entire family and these changes can only be perceived as being cheap and not patron friendly.

Can this be due to soft crowds predicted for the summer? One must wonder that "being cheap" isn't the only reason behind this. What is most aggrivating for me has already been shared: dumping everyone out after HEA, because there's nothing to do after the show.

Our next trip is in Dec., but we may skip next year and let Disney finish a project or two. I will also be watching the direction DW is heading to see if it's even worth it to plan for 2019. While I really want to see Galaxy's Edge, I'm wondering how much is going to change between now and then.

When the parks are crowded and the resorts are packed of course theres going to be a massive strain on the ability to have transportation carrying that amount of guests throughout Disney property. Theres bound to be a back ups, especially when crowds pour out of the parks and head to their means of exit. Anyone thinking they are going to return to their resort quickly are crazy. Any other event emptying out, concerts, sporting events etc have similar traffic flow issues... Ive seen Disney improving but it will never have the ability to magically speed that number of guests through in short periods of time. People need to be patient and expect delays, more so at prime times when crowds back up.
The fact MK is closing at 10 (which is far too early) contributes to the overcrowding right after HEA. If they stayed open until 12 much of those problems would be reduced and more manageable. It is time for Disney to recognize closing at 10 is starting to be a disaster and it was not a well thought out decision.

Isn't it logical that if you leave in mass with a huge crowd you are probably going to experience wait times? I mean you have to expect this. So like others have stated chill for a bit hang on Main Street watch the type AAA folks stampede out and enjoy the show. I'd rather hang on Main Street than a line.

Ummmmm, OK. 2 statements, 2 massive understatements.

The resorts served by the gondolas are huge. AOA is almost 4000 rooms, POP and CBR are large too. Somebody suggested a total of almost a third of all rooms on site.

And the gondolas will be continuously loading. So let's say a car leaves every 10 seconds, in 1 minute you have 8 x 6 = 48 people away, in 10 minutes you have 480 people away. Compared to a bus, which if it arrived and loaded in 10 minutes would have 70 people on it? There will be a line but it will be continuously moving.
I think she meant that they only go to a handful of resorts, not anything about the size of said resorts. And she also meant That you can only fit a small number of people in one gondola.

yes, that was clear, but it seems many are still not grasping the concept that these modern gondolas move a decent clip and are continuous. think "people mover". i could be wrong, but i think when its finally up and running everyone is going be absolutely in love with it. its going to move people efficiently.

The discussion was about how to manage large numbers of people exiting the parks. And related to this mentioned that the gondolas held a limited number of people and only served 2 parks and 4 resorts.

My point was that the gondolas would get up to a third of the guests at those two parks "home" far far quicker than any other form of transport. Thus releieving the problem immeasurably at least at Epcot and DHS, allowing more buses to be deployed for people staying at other resorts. Most people staying at CBR would be home before any of those at the All Stars.

If you think of Epcot, add on the BWV, BC, YC and Swan&Dolphin, and you could have up to half the guests leaving from the IG. That will make a huge difference to the numbers at the bus stops, with more buses free to pick them up.

But I think the original point was if you're traveling in a group that needs more room, you wouldn't take a Gondola you'd want a Minnie van or something that accommodates more.

You wouldn't split your group if the next gondola was 8 seconds behind? ;)

I thought the whole original point was "we had to wait an hour for a ferry, why can't Disney get us back to our resort quicker?". Whereupon someone else said well there are Minnie vans and gondolas, but the gondolas only serve 2 parks and 4 resorts......

I read this whole thread as being about getting people back from parks late at night. I stand by my assertion that the gondolas will be far and away the most efficient way to do this, and will account for a huge number of guests at those 2 resorts. YMMV.
