Horrible airline reviews?

Yep. We're fine with that. We're also thinking of taking a Greyhound out there.
Does somebody in your group have a fear of flying? Airplane is totally the way to go cross-country. I spitballed a driving trip to California... wasn't pretty! You can get a direct flight from LAX to MCO for the same money or less as a train or bus and be in the Magic Kingdom before you reach New Mexico with the other guys. Somebody in your group has a fear of flying, right? Tell them to suck it up!

Orlando to Anaheim is 2500 miles. That's 4 11-hour days on the highway. The online mapping services say 39 hours, but as mentioned above, that's if you don't have to stop for fuel, food, traffic (likely on I-10), or to use the bathroom. No way should anyone attempt to do that "straight through" without stops overnight. Few people can sleep well enough when a car is moving down the highway. Still a lovely drive, though -- all the way down I-10.

Haha, I don't really enjoy flying and my friend has vertigo. She gets very sick easily, so flying is sort of out of the question. She faints as well. We want to road trip it!

If you don't mind driving an hour you can fly Southwest out of Denver. Depending on how far ahead you are able to book and how flexible you are on when to fly they will have flights for less than $100 each way... so little less than 200 a person round trip is possible... Not sure how many are in your family... Also know that Southwest doesn't rip you off on the baggage fees like most every other airline... Only down side to them is that you need to check in over the internet as soon as possible during the check in window so you will be allowed in the first group to board the plane... they don't have reserved seats so it is first come first serve.
If you book an Airtran flight through Southwest you'll get assigned seating AND two free checked bags AND SW rates. We did this to WDW and it worked really well. $10 a person for picking your seat in advance, or you check in at the 24 hour window and grab your seats. Either way it's very convenient.
