Horizons

Today, as I was walking back from class, somebody in front of me was eating an orange. That citrus smell ALWAYS makes me immediately remember walking into Horizons.

I'm sure that I'm not the only one here who reminisces about that ride whenever she smells an orange...

But what's so sad, is that I can just barely remember the rest of the ride! Somehow, though, that scent has stayed with me as a permanent association with it for years! :)

Ah... the memories.

I think the same thing! Oranges sometimes remind me of Soarin now, but the smell is a little different than that of Horizons. Or the smell of bus exhaust, it always makes me think of Disney (and my friends think I'm both gross and nuts!). The smell of something burning makes me think of Spaceship Earth. *Sighs, wishing I was there*...

The first two posts of this thread made me think of something. Do you think Disney has gotten better or worse at being able to reproduce smells through the years? I think the orange smell on Horizons was better than the smell effects I've experienced on Soarin' and Philharmagic (note how I'm not mentioning SGE).

I too associate the scent of oranges with Horizons. That was my first ever Disney attraction and it remains in my top five favourites. It got sad when I could ride with no line, because I knew that meant its days were numbered. I used to get off and get right back on again. I remember pretty much all of it even without benefit of video. It's too bad that type of attraction is not in vogue anymore.

Whenever I smell something with this oddly musty smell, I think of Pirates of the Caribbean. Don't associate oranges with Horizons, though.

I did that... :( Horizons was seasonal and I was at EPCOT during the Holiday season. They were closing it for good the next week.

Finally the CMs took mersy on me and told me if I wanted to ride again I could just stay on.

This is because Horizons had "Loranges" (hybrid lemon/oranges from Mesa Verde), and Soarin' has plain old oranges. :)

I really, really miss Horizons... The unofficial "sequel" to CoP.

I miss that ride.... but I don't have a large memory of it so i couldn't be on the same page as far as the orages go. but i did love it from what i do recall (which isn't much rest assured). it may have been outdated..but the least you could do is update..not replace with it with an advanced gravatron

What i remember..not vividly but the most may be the little girl looking at the seal
the weirdest thing was that i asscoiate hot dogs with space ship earth

Does anybody know where one might find a video ride-through of Horizons? I never got to ride it, and was disappointed when it was torn down just before our first family trip back in '03 (I think).

The last time I was on Horizons was either 93 or 94 but it has remained my favorite ride till this day. No new rides, old rides, thrill rides, slow rides, at any park have claimed that spot over Horizons. The sights, sounds, smells, and the good old feeling of better days being ahead for all of us - I will never forget those.

Thanks for making such a great tribut video Marni!

Now all we need to do is figure out a way to re-build the whole darn thing for real :D

I was on this ride once in my life, I was maybe 6 and all i remember from this ride was going on this after or just before going on UoE and at the end of the ride picking the desert. Then I remember coming out with my mom and dad, and it was near park closing and thinking how cool the last two rides were, and looking back I was surprized I actually enjoyed it, because as a 6 year old I found Epcot boring but riding UoE and Horizons last changed my opinion. I wish they still had Horizons.

Thanks for the memory

I loved that smell of oranges as well. I always thought it was SOOO cool that we could pick the ending for the ride. I really thought that was a nice touch. Thanks for the comments and links.
