I believe neeps / swedes are actualy rutabagas - which many people call turnips anyway. Just like people call sweet potatoes yams.

A rutabaga is a big ugly thing about the size of a coconut.They are yellowish, usualy waxed to keep them fresh, and taste like utter crap

A turnip is smaller, most of the time white, but other colors exist, looks sort of like a very very fat carrot, and it too tastes like crap.

While I would not be participating in that particular sampling I can usually get DH to try anything at least once so there might be some hope with him. Actually if DH told me I would like it after he tries I would try it.

I love how hatter always tries to culturize us Americans and at least half of it gets lost in translation!
