Hoop Dee Doo VS Whispering Canyon?

I think the BBQ is better at Whispering Canyon. The experience is super fun, stick horse races every 15 min, loud and silly waiters, lots of silliness going on. The kids can get up a little bit more than the Hoopdedoo review. Mickey's Backyard BBQ is also awesome for the kids getting to move around a lot. But I think the food is the best at Whispering Canyon.

I would have to agree that the food is a little better at WCC but there is a trick to great food at WCC I discovered on one of my recent trips. You will want to make the earliest ADR possible for dinner. In the past we have always made late ADR's and the meats have been on the dry side. The last few times we have made early dinner ADR's and all of the meat came out fall off the bone tender and simply incredible in every way. My guess is that the majority of the meats are ready at opening and they begin to dry out as the day goes on.

I agree with Master Yoda go early for dinner and the BBQ is better, also over all IMHO the food at WCC is better than Hoop de doo. It all depends if you want the dinner show or the craziness of WCC.

HDDR is a fixed menu with the show, while the WCC has the greater variety on the menu of a more traditional restaurant. Other than that, the main difference is the "review" versus what entertainment you may (or may not) get that particular night at WCC.

But both are great.....:)

What do you guys typically get to eat? It sounds like the staff there are kind of like 50's Diner... however when we went... our waitress was not very animated.

We have done both & liked both.

The food is not the same though...the main dish at HDDR is fried chicken.

The main dishes for dinner at WCC are:
Grilled Rib Eye Steak with mashed potatoes & season vegetables
Meatloaf with mashed potatoes & fresh veggies
Famous Canyon Skillet All-You-Care-To-Enjoy which includes mixed greens with apple vinaigrette & fresh baked cornbread, smoked pork ribs, pulled pork, oven-roasted chicken, pork sausage, mashed potatoes, creamy coleslaw, beans, & corn on the cob
Roast Chicken with seasonal veggies & mashed potatoes
Smoked Pork Loin with Mango chutney, chorizo-tillamook grits & seasonal vegetables
St. Louis-style Ribs with cowboy beans, mashed potatoes, & seasonal veggies, a half rack
Western Chicken Pasta with fresh veggies tossed in a roasted garlic-chipotle cream sauce
Whiskey Maple glazed Trout with Arugula-Frisee salad

We have eaten the Canyon Skillet at WCC & it is great! :slurp:

WCC is much better if going for a meal. I don't think though you would go to the Hoop Dee Do for the food and not take the show into consideration. It is not cheap at all and to spend $50 a head or whatever they charge now for fried chicken and ribs would be nuts. The show is a lot of fun so that should be your deciding factor in going there instead of the food

If you go to the WCC for dinner get the all you care to eat BBQ skillet
All of the food there is good, but this dish is more in staying with the theme IMHO.
We love the breakfast skillets as well.

Personally my family enjoys WC more that Hoop Dee Doo. We always get a kick when someone asks for ketchup. Makes us laugh every time.

Whispering Canyon has good food. But the entertainment part is too canned for me.
The staff seems to come across as kind of going through the motions.
Sit in the lobby outside the restaurant and watch the same shenanigans happen over and over again inside.
The ketchup routine gets a little old after watching that.
Not my cup of tea at all.

Hoop De Doo Revue is more honest about being a fun, ridiculous event.
It's an actual show, not a cheap little routine.

I'll go back to HDDR every few years.
Doubt I'll try WCC again.

We had lunch at WCC this past August and expected a lighter version of the entertainment that makes it famous.

As we entered, a man saw me at the check-in and asked me to walk away because he was about to use strong language. He then proceeded to tell the CMs that it was the worst service he'd ever received. They didn't seem to know how to handle the situation.

There were hardly any people in the restaurant and, other than the irate customer, nothing that distinguished it from any other eatery in WDW. My family enjoyed the skillet. I don't think, however, that we'll return.

Hoop Dee Doo, with the exception of 1 visit out of app. 10, is consistently entertaining. My daughter, who is a vegetarian, has enjoyed wonderful meals prepared for her after a personal visit to the table by the chef.
The actors work hard to keep it fresh and funny. HDD gets my vote everytime!

I have been to WC roughly a dozen times and I generally find it fun and the food generally good, however it walks the line of being inconsistent. The steak is huge, but not a great cut. The trout is pretty good. And the skillet is really the main attraction, however, it was better when it had shrimp on it. The service depends on who you get really. I have had very lively service and very mundane service. There are several staff who I have seen there over and over that do a great job.

That being said. I have never had a bad experience at the HDDR in the 6 or 7 times I have gone to it. The show is hilarious if you like camp and shtick. You won't find any highbrow comedy here, but its clean and engaging. The food is the best food I've ever had at a dinner show (I've been to The Luau at the Polynesian, The Dixie Stampede, and Medieval times, all multiple times) The chicken is fantastic and the corn bread and salad are really good too. Im not one for ribs usually because they take to much work to eat, and the beans are good, but nothing to write home about. And oddly enough I think the best show for the HDDR is the last one. I think the crowd is a little different, and if you are on the dining plan you can get floor seating.

For overall dining experience I give WC a B+ and HDDR a solid A.
