-- The Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue at Fort Wilderness will not be performed from October 1 through December 31.

We are so Bummed, we are going in December and have never been and were planning on going, taking are 4 and 3 year old grandaughters thought they would get a kick out of it. Oh well maybe next time around.

Anyone know what they are going to be doing during that time? I hope they bring back the original song, as I will not be returned there unless it is brought back.

I hope this does not have anything to do with the proposed Fort Wilderness DVC resort. Remember that other thread that discussed it, with plans shown that seemed to obliterate the whole Settlement area (including Pioneer Hall, where it is performed) with essentially a parking lot for their new FW DVC?

It would seem that a long but temporary shut-down like this would be for a refurb of the existing hall (and maybe a new show), but I can't help but wonder since there seem to be more permanent plans ahead that challenge the whole Settlement.... sigh.

For me, I love the Settlement and this show. It is still perfectly themed and wonderfully executed. And peaceful during the day, which is a glorious find at WDW....

I wonder what the performers would do. Seem like some of them, and the waiters, have been there for a long time.

Very interesting that they're shutting it down during the holiday season.

Yeah I would agree the timing is a bit strange. You'd think they'd try to have it open by the 15th of December or so. It's such a revenue-generating and popular thing; the refurb must be an extensive rebuild to last that long.

As far as the cast, the actual performers will likely either be S.O.L. during that time or they will be paid through. It really depends on what their contract says. Entertainment performers like them are generally contracted.

The servers will simply be redistributed to other restaurants around property, similar to what happens when an attraction goes down. For example, Test Track cast members would first have been trained on other Future World East attractions such as Mission:Space and Ellen's Energy Adventure and then alternatively offered cross-training at things like Seas, the Land Pavillion, and the Imagination pavillion.

If this is true Im glad we made our ressies for the 29 of sept. Taking my wifes sister with us to help with the children. She has only been to Magic Kingdom a few times. Last time was about 11 years ago. She was 9 at the time. So were taking her for 8 days and showing her how to do it right.

I was thinking the same thing. The timing of the refurb is very interesting in itself, but when you throw in the fact that this is during the busiest time of the year, you would think that they would definitely try to get it opened by Dec 7th or 15th. So I'm definitely curious to see if this refurb is part of something else that is going on with the Resort...otherwise why not scedule the refurb for Sept 1st though Nov 30th?

The show is sold out pretty much all the time isn't it? If so, it doesn't matter when the refurb is, busy season or not.

The point is that the Holiday season is the busiest time of the year and the crowd levels put a strain on all of the resorts amenities. So having this closed during that time of year does infact matter.

When we were there in March, they actually called me to change reservations to a different show time because they were canceling a couple shows due to low attendance. We had 9:30 reservations, and they moved us up, saying a handful of 9:30 shows had been cut.

And come to think of it... The earlier show we got moved to only used a few tables in the balcony. The floor was full, balcony nearly empty.

Count me as among those thinking it's very very odd to do this over the Holiday season.

I don't think this has to do with the DVC project. I just made reservations for Trails End during that time period without any issue. For those that don't know, Trail's End is located adjacent to the Hoop Dee Doo Revue. They are actually the same building and share the same kitchen, according to what a CM told me.

If they were doing something to the Settlement area then I would think that they would shut down the entire area.

On a side note, if you have never been to Trail's End you should try it, it's absolutely fantastic. Again, according to a CM that worked there, the food they serve at Hoop Dee Doo is virtually one and the same that they serve at Trail's End just without the show.

No worries - we went in March - also had never been - its ok, food not that great - I won't be doing it again. The performers are good and nice but its too much money.

I think it is a wonderful show, good food, and a great overall experience. But like everything else at WDW, it has gotten WAY too expensive. That, I think, has affected attendance. It is not in a park, so it doesn't compensate well with walk-ins, either.

But still a wonderful, fun, creative, wholesome experience. And I absolutely love going to it at night, with a chill in the air as you wait outside. I always do the 9:30 show when we can, and it is usually busy, but the last time it was not crowded at all.

It is such a fun show that we go every other year. Maybe the cast members just need a little vacation and shall return really refreshed after an extended vacation. One can only hope. But then again maybe they will show up in Frontier Land and reopen the theater there while Pioneer Hall is 'refurbed'.
