Hi, Im staying at the cabins in late september and want some advice. I have always wanted to do the hoop dee doo but was afraid it would be cheesy.
WOW!! Thats a tough choice. We have done both a few times, and will do both again. In fact, we have the Backyard BBQ booked for our Christmas trip. It all depends, I guess, would you rather be inside watching a show, or outside watching a show? A family table, or picnic benches with others? Would you rather have someone bring you your food, or help yourself? Both are a great time. The food is good at both. Entertainment great at both. Would you would rather meet characters, then do the BBQ. Just a tough choice. You're staying at the cabins, would you be interested in both?

hoop de doo is as cheesy as it gets. but that's why it's magical. over the top cheese puts it back into the cool category again.
i have taken all ages of folks. even kids as little as 2 that i have taken have been enthralled. they don't get the jokes, but the action/scenery keeps their attention. and teens i have taken have also been sucked in. they find it hysterical because even the actors play it like they know it's cheesy and we're all in on an inside joke: it's cheesy.
BBQ is also fun, but not necessarily a lifelong memory like hoop de doo.
i vote for HDD, unless your family really wants the character interaction of BBQ
just my humble opinion, you can't go wrong with either

We have a four year old and a two year old. We are doing other character stuff and would prefer to do the hoop dee doo for parents entertainment. Hopefully they will behave. Also dont they have unlimited beer?:D
Both have unlimited beer and wine! Hoop dee do is entertaining for kids as well

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
Seven years ago, when we took my parents (now that they're gone, I treasure the memories of that trip even more), we did both on the same trip. My boys would have been 10 and 11 at the time. While the kids liked the Backyard BBQ, we all enjoyed HDD infinitely more. The food is better and it is brought to your table, the music and show have a broader appeal, and there's that little perk called air conditioning.

Been to both. HDDR prob 4 times and BBQ 1 time which was our most recent trip down there. BBQ really is an unsung great dinner event down at the world. My Kids absolutely loved it as did my wife and I. HDDR would not have been good with kids who would not get some of the jokes and get antsy when they eat. BBQ everyone could dance around and interact with the show itself. HDDR is indoors with food brought to you whereas BBQ is buffet style all you care to eat and drink. Each have their own qualities. It's simply what do you prefer, food brought to you in an indoor venue featuring an old timey country show - HDDR. or buffet at an roof covered outdoor venue with a live country band, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip & Dale, a wild west trick Roaper and and MC'd show that gets people up dancing and interacting with the hosts. The food selections are equally as good.

My kids were 18months and 4-1/2 when we went. My daughter danced the night away with "Minnie Mou" as she has come to be obsessed with all things minnie ever since.

my bad. whats the difference?

No big deal. Just wouldn't want anyone who did one to expect the same food at the other
MBYBBQ is burgers, dogs, mac and cheese, salad, chicken, ribs, corn bread, corn on the cob, unlimited ice cream treats (including Mickey bars!!!), beer and wine included

HDDR is fried chicken, ribs, salad, cowboy beans, cornbread, strawberry shortcake dessert, with unlimited beer, wine and sangria

Again, both are fantastic shows. They are just different.

good to know. I Love HDDR. been about 5 times in my 31 years on this planet. MBYBBQ I have never been too. But I thought I heard some where that HDDR shared food with some other venue.

Hoop De Doo is so cheesy that it requires slow aging and a red wax wrap. That's the point of it, and it makes it wonderfully endearing. I have gone twice, and I would go again. Pay the extra to sit front and center.

On another note. My DW and I were talking about WDW and we are tired of seeing the same stuff for the past 6 years and I said I would go back just to eat at HDDR.
