Hoop de Doo Theme Song Change?

If this has been mentioned please forgive me, I searched and couldn't find anything.

This might need to be taken with a grain of salt as it comes from a relative who has friends that went and saw the show and talked to the cast afterward, but their report is that a new theme song for Hoop De Doo has been written and has started being performed in the last two days or so due to Disney somehow loosing the rights to the original that has been with the show since the beginning. The new song is said to be similar though (how similar I don't know).

Can anyone verify and/or disprove this? If it is true then I am quite bummed as the Hoop de Doo Revue has always been a big part of my Disney-related life and I would hate to see its signature theme leave. Does anyone have more info?

If you're talking about the actual Hoop Dee Doo song, then I doubt its true. Original lyrics were written specifically for the show.

I've actually read the same thing recently. Supposedly the HDDR song was a parody of another (or at least that is what Disney claimed) song written by one individual (whom I believe is still alive), and composed by Perry Como. I think the song was actually called the Hoop Dee Doo Polka. I guess the copyright is still held by the author (or someone with his interest), and Disney will have to either pay up or find another opening song to use. Sorry I don't have better details, but I'm sure the story is out there somewhere....

I've heard this rumor as well last week. Something about the original writer passing away and his family wanting tons of money from Disney to continue to use it. No idea if that's true, just what I overheard. I'm interested to hear if this happened.

Turns out there's an old song from 1950 that Perry Como did called Hoop De Doo Polka, and allegedly Disney has been using it at WDW for 40 years and no one caught that it was copyrighted as someone else's music that Disney was using without permission.

You can listen to the 1950 version here, and it's pretty obvious Disney lifted this song and just changed some of the lyrics to fit the opening of their dinner show. Oops! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaK6iANjSg8

Yes
I did hear this, but was under the impression it would not be in effect until after the new year. If it's already in effect, I'll be sad because I'm seeing the show next week with my parents and was looking forward to hearing it one last time.

Hhhmmm..this would be surprising to me. I was under the impression that this had been going on for awhile, and supposedly there was little arguing that Disney was within their rights to use the parody in the show. I am sure if they did change it - it was as little as possible, and probably won't even be noticed by the average guest. But thats just my guess..

I can't say anything about the song (I've never seen the show),but I know a couple people who are performers there, and I know they've been rehearsing a couple new songs and new choreography recently.

If this is true, I will cry. I'm not even kidding...

I'm willing to give a new song a chance, but honestly, loading up on corn bread, sipping a sangria, and waiting with anticipation for the stage coach to arrive with the Pioneer Hall Players who burst into song, "HOOP DEE DOO, HOOP DEE DOO, WE'LL ENTERTAIN YOU TILL THE EVENING IS THROUGH!" that is Disney World for me.
