Hoop-de-doo someone else

OK, I have been torn for a long time now. Everyone raves at how great the Hoop de Doo Revue is, but they all say how the audience is messed with during the performance. I am not one of those people who wants to be messed with during any type of show, but I think I would really enjoy watching this someday... especially if we camp at Fort Wilderness. Is there any seats that you can request to be out of shows way, or can you simply request not to be part of the act regardless of seating?

You would not believe how paranoid I was at the Polynesian Show a few years back. Luckily I was not choosen, but no eye contact helped I think. Unfortunately, I do tend to be noticed in a crowd often. I have participated in the Bird Show at Animal Kingdom, a magic show and a comedy bit at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, and several other smaller things. For me, this does not heighten my vacation experience. I'm sure there are many who love this extra attention, but I'm sure there are some like myself who would prefer to be left out thank you very much. :)

spidey the first time we were at the Hoop de doo we were on the second floor and the characters rarely came up there the only time i think they did is when they asked if you were celebrating a special occassion

The second time we went to it we went to the late show 9:30 pm and there was only about twenty people there so they messed with everyone especially Richard  that time I guess it depends on where you get seated or what show you go to

I think seating is whoever calls in first and so on for that night but I am not sure

Thanks Cheryl. I had no idea there was upstairs seating. I will request that when we go (I say when, cause I know someday I will go). Do they allow Video taping?

your welcome spidey I dont know if they allow video taping but I did take pics IMHO I dont think you would be able to do any video taping because they perform while you are eating dinner there maybe a little part at the beginning that you can maybe videotape thats when they have the salad out

Oh come on its fun to get picked on buy the performers. One of the ladies at Hoop Dee Doo came and sat on my fathers lap and stroked his hair its some thing we still talk about this day.

YIKES!

I wouldn't really say the audience is "messed with"....

All they really do is a thing where they ask anyone who is having a birthday or anniversary, etc., to stand up and take a bow.

They also ask 4-5 people TO VOLUNTEER to go up on stage for a little skit at the end of the show.

Otherwise, it's just plain old good fun! :sohappy:

I never liked to be "picked on" at shows either, and actually it ruins it for me, but I didn't find that happening at Hoop-Dee-Doo.

Now .... front row at The Improv was another story.....

You'll love it!

The last time we went was July of 2001. There were 9 of us, 4 adults and 5 kids. We got to sit on the main floor in the center of the hall. When the performers came in and started shouting my brother in law just joined in and they started to pat him on the back...my DH thought that his brother was in for trouble. During the show they go around and ask where everyone is from, well on of the girls comes over and sits on my DH's lap and continues her song from there. The kids were hysterical and we just kept teasing him about his new girlfriend all night long!!

We got some great pics during the show (no scanner so I can't attatch them) and we have a great laugh everytime we look at them...which is more freq. now that we will be returning in AUG.

The first time we went we were in the upper balcony and no one bothered us...though the kids did get to play the washboard.

I say go along with it...everyone is a kid at Disney and nobody from work will know unless you tell them!!

See, that's exactly what I'm saying... some people like that stuff, some people are bashful but have a great time after the fact, and for some it makes the experience less enjoyable.

For me... I fall in the last catergory... I am one who does not like the extra attention. I will request upper balcony. :) For those who like the extra things, they can have my space on ground floor.

I was just there a couple of weeks ago and we sat 1 table away from the stage. They won't bother you unless you raise your hand for a birthday, anniversary or your on your honeymoon. Like Brer stitch said, you have to volunteer to be included in the show. We go on every trip and we have a blast laughing at their antics. I think you should go and enjoy yourself. They won't mess with you unless you want to be messed with.:animwink: The food is good too! My husband loves his fried chicken and beer and I like the sangria. The food and drink are decent family fare and it's plentiful.

Go and have a wonderful time and leaves your cares at home....just laugh!

Bottom Line: I would have a great time regardless, and I would go either way. I just wanted to get the full picture of what goes on and what options were available to me. Thanks everyone for your input. Unfortunately, it may be some time before we get to WDW again, but I am considering the Hoop De Doo for whenever we do make it back.

Always thinking about the next trip you know.

If you read my post, I put that you have to volunteer in order to be in the show as in the show on stage. The show at the end where they have all of the audience members.

we went to the show in 97, and my niece's husband was asked if he would be a part of the show... well, if you've never seen it I won't spoil it by telling you... but when he came out at the end we laughed so incredibly hard that we were all crying! It was one of our best memories! If he had said no they would have left him alone though...
