Honey I Shrunk The Audience

I was recently watching an old clip during the 1994 WDW Christmas parade which brought up HISTA as it was in it's early first year at Epcot. While I was watching, it came to the scene where Wayne's Hover pod crashes into the NERD neon sign and explodes debris (Glitter or Silver Confetti??) into the audience shown here on this clip.

Was this a standard effect? or was this just for Media use? I don't recall glitter confetti being shot out into the theater...Then again having to clean it every time could have been rather fustrating over and over...Anyone know?

To me it looks like an obvious add on special affect. Even the mice didn't cause that much reaction from the guests, but it was cool to watch though. I had quite a laugh every time I went there with somebody that hadn't been there before.

It probably was..Just the second shot you can see the lady closest to the camera with her hands out like she was feeling the confetti glitter.

Everytime I went during the pre-show it was always a hoot when you heard people screaming from the theater before guests entered.

It may be. I never witnessed it in all my times seeing the show. She also might be good at taking direction. The alleged confetti in the scene just didn't look real to me. It looked real when Solo was run through with a light saber as well, but, I have seen Harrison Ford on TV since that happened so it probably wasn't real.

Very much media. Disney were notorious in the 90s for their non representative commercials.

See no further than their Alien Encounter promos.

As much as they were non representative, I certainly enjoyed watching all of them and imagining that was what the rides were actually like. I was always wondering how they got Quark's paws so close to the audience! ;)

This would have been nice to had come back rather than a pointless "Film Festival"
It would be a fun distraction while a large portion of future world is under construction, and it's probably nostalgic for enough people that a "limited" return would be worthwhile. They'd have to remaster the film of course, but I'd imagine all of the in-theater effects are still in place.

the vibration is for sure... it scared me at the film fest last year.

It also still fits said Institute theme...But, then I don't know if they have to contact actors for said use of their likenesses being used again is an issue but, Rick Moranis's picture is in the queue so it may not be problem...I do wonder if they get a residual?
