Holy Cow room prices have increased for 2011!

Looking at the same last two weeks in April 2011 as 2010 at the GF with a MK view room, the price increased from $595 (which was considered regular season) to $750 a night, indicating that all of April is now considered Easter or peak season. The price goes down in May to $610. I'm sure this is due in part to the fact that Easter is late, but to have the whole month increased in price is really something.

It isn't $750 a night when it isn't peak season. Obviously the statement is about when it is $750 a night. No need to mention the rest of the time, because it is irrelevant.

Actually it is relevent, for two reasons. First, its not like its $750 during peak season $200 a night the rest of the year. $750 rack rate for peak sure is worse than $500 rack rate during other seasons, but even the $500 is still unjustifiably high, and will be discounted just as much, if not more.

Second, in 2009, discounts for resorts were widespread throughout property, even during holiday weeks like Christmas, which is practically unheard of. Christmas to New Years is NEVER discounted, until now anyway, so obviously the demand wasn't there at the rack rates.

As others have posted, it doesn't matter if this is a great idea for Disney that they can constantly change their prices (via discounts) to match demand, it sort of leaves a bad impression with guests who can see they are still not getting the value they used to.

Nobody knows what the economy or the job market will do. If you under price based on demand, you're screwed. If you OVER price based on demand, you're able to issue discounts.

The deluxe resort rack rates are obscene. No matter how close the room is to a theme park, the room itself and the service offered are barely better than a $250/night 3 1/2-star hotel.

If the W and Omni can successfully weed out the undesirable guests by charging just $300/night, Disney can, too.

Most guests staying at these resorts are on discounts up to 40% through bounceback promotions and other packages. Why not just cancel the discounts and return the room rates to real-world prices?

Assuming they'll never do that, WDW must continue offering deep discounts to offset the artificially priced rooms. That's the worst business plan I've ever heard of. What moron decided it was a good idea?

We haven't even considered the impact this will have on wealthy guests who either pay rack rate or get a small discount. When they check into the Grand Floridian for about $600/night and realize they've got a normal hotel room that doesn't offer half the perks of a $350/night hotel at another vacation destination, they're not going to be happy with their Disney experience.
