Trip Report Hollywood studios trip report

We had the good fortune to travel to WDW for Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. Spent extra time at Hollywood studios after learning this was the last year for the Osborne Lights. I let Guest Services know that we are not happy the lights are going away. We've been coming to see them for the past 10 years.

During our visit major rides were down for many hours. At Thanksgiving, Rocking Roller Coaster was down for 5 hours and the screens on Toy Story Mania were blurry. On 12/26, Toy Story, Rocking Roller coaster were down and Tower of terror was operating at 1/2 capacity (with 3 hour waits)
All of the other rides backed up. If you had a fast pass there was still an hour wait to get on the ride.

Disney rep says well this is our busy time. No excuse! If you are going to ask for $100 a person, make sure the rides are functioning!

Just curious: what was guest relations response regarding your thoughts on Osborne Lights ending? Was it an "oh we're so sorry" or did they go into detail?

I believe the legitimate reason is to begin construction in that area on the two new lands. It's sad the lights are going, but at least it's for something else/something new, not canning it just because.

Thanks for asking. Guest services always says they want to hear from customers so I am never shy about voicing my ideas. I think my comments regarding the Osborne Lights fell on deaf ears. They were quick to give us fast passes to make up for the lost time on the downed rides, but they will not talk about future plans for the lights.

I should also note that the Star Wars Launch bay didn't live up to the hype. Reminded us of the Narnia exhibit from a few years back. There is a 10 minute movie that talks about the making of the movie. There are 2 character greeting areas, some memorablia and then an area with about 10 computers to play games. Some of the computers were not working and there was not a cast member present to help out. They did have some storm troopers patrolling the area that was cool to see.

All of that makes sense. It doesn't surprise me that they were tight lipped. They must be trained to handle things a certain way (apologize, give Fastpasses or special whatever to appease guest). Seems odd considering its public knowledge that two new lands are being built and they simply need that space. Hopefully the lights will find a home elsewhere on Disney property somewhere. Glad you got some Fastpasses!
